Probably not very much, to the average angler the phrase Alaska Fishing Vacation is as provocative a phrase as anything his girlfriend has ever said to him. And for the avid woman angler, the same would apply. The fishing opportunities that the great state of Alaska offers are unparalleled anywhere in the world. From salmon to halibut, the fishing opportunities in The Last Frontier are truly legendary. A fishing vacation in Alaska could literally mean a world record. Alaska s most famous river, The Kenai, holds nearly 2 dozen IFGA world records for various salmon species as well as other fish. This is amazing, and as a matter of fact this incredible river is home to the world record king salmon that weighed in at over 97 pounds! No wonder Alaska is such a popular state for taking a fishing vacation. Not only is the fishing incredible, but the scenery isn t too bad either. As a matter of fact, the scenery in much of Alaska is breathtaking. Alaska is twice the size of Texas and has fewer roads than Delaware. This makes for a lot of wide open spaces. Alaska may well have been what the Dixie Chicks were singing about in their song of that title. Even if the fishing happened to be bad while you were in Alaska, the beauty that nature has to offer will make the trip well worth while. Hey, this can be used as a selling point to your wife so that you can get your Alaska fishing vacation done. There s plenty to do in Alaska other than fish. Other than fishing, what s the other thing that comes to your mind when you think of Alaska? That s right, bears. There may be no better place on the face of this planet to view bears in the wild like Alaska. Alaska is home to over 98 percent of our country&#226;€&trade;s brown bear population so it is no wonder that Alaska bear viewing is a popular visitor attraction. Some species of bear can be found in every corner of Alaska. There are many bear viewing opportunities available to visitors of Alaska. Some safer than others. The least safe would be wade fishing during a salmon run, and the safest would be on a bear viewing bus in Denali National Park. The point is that if you would like to see a bear in the wild, Alaska can accommodate you. The bottom line is that an Alaska fishing vacation is a great idea for not only the avid angler, but also the person who simply enjoys the wonder and beauty of nature. There is no place on earth like the state of Alaska, and an Alaska fishing vacation is a wonderful way to experience all of it. Find out for yourself why the great state of Alaska is called The Last Frontier . Hey, and you just might catch a world record along the way? Trevor Kugler is co-founder of JRWfishing.com and an avid angler. He has more than 20 years experience fishing for all types of fish, and 15 years of business and internet experience. He currently raises his three year old daughter in the heart of trout fishing country&#226;€&#166;..Montana! The journey is a long but beautiful passage through dramatic, harsh territory. Making this an outstanding destination for walking safaris. Lake Natron is a soda lake at the base of the active Ol Donyo Lengai volcano, the area around the lake is often described as having a desolate and almost lunar beauty. Walks around the lake and up along the side of the streams to the waterfalls along the nearby escarpment make for a fantastic adventure that is well and truly &#226;€&oelig;off the beaten track&#226;€. Day 1: Arrival in Aruhsa. Day 2: Early morning head to Tarangire National Park, arriving in time for lunch, set up camp in a remote area of the park. After lunch take your first experience of Africa with a walk following the park border. In the afternoon proceed to the base camp at Empakaai Crater. Day 7: The views along the trail downwards to the crater lake of Empakaai are spectacular at every point. You might see herds of buffalo, bushbucks, blue monkeys in the flat toped acacia and always a good variety of birds. It is a joy to walk around the lake shore, experiencing the serenity and quite beauty of this wild spot. Overnight at the base camp. Day 8 : The hike to Lake Natron starts proper from Empakaai Crater. Descending the outer hills of the Great Rift Valley, walk through the open plains of the Embulbul depression, to the campsite at the village of Naiobi. This village offers the great privilege to meet the local Maasai. Ol Doinyo Lengai and Mount Meru are seen along the way. No porters here but the Maasai donkeys carry the luggage. Day 9: Trekking to Oldonyo Lengai the only active volcano of Tanzania, named by the Maasai as the holy mountain . It is a four hour walk to the foot of this impressive mountain, pitch tents and set up camp (an alternative camp is at Ngare Sero/ Kamakia at the nearby Lake Natron) Day 10: At midnight the steep accent of the mountain begins; this is in order to avoid the heat of the sun, there is no shelter on the mountain. This is a steep climb on loose scree is for the physically fit only. The summit, at 2,450 meters above sea level, is achieved by sunrise. From here there are fantastic views of the surrounding landscape, Lake Natron, Mount Meru and even Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day. The crater itself offers a unique spectacle. You can descend onto the crater floor, everywhere it is bubbling and steaming, small fissures inside the crater produce streams of molten lava. Return to the base camp for overnight. Alas, your hiking experiences can fade with time. The best way to prevent this is to keep a hiking journal. Hiking Journals Take a minute to give some consideration to your most recent hiking experience. What sticks out in your mind? Who did you go with and were there any incredible views? Now think about the first time you ever went hiking. Undoubtedly, you remember few things about the geography, people you went with and the particular hiking routes. The experiences you&#226;€&trade;ve forgotten are lost to time. If you keep a hiking journal, this won&#226;€&trade;t be the case. There are famous instances of people keeping journals throughout time. Of course, Anne Frank&#226;€&trade;s Diary is the best example. In her diary, Anne kept a running commentary of the two years her family spent hiding from the Nazis. While your hiking experiences better be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass. A good hiking journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you don&#226;€&trade;t have to lug extra weight around. Second, it should have a case to protect it from the elements. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include: 1. Who you went hiking with, 2. The length and difficulty of the hike, 3. Who you met and contact information for them, 4. The weather conditions, 5. Any unique things that occurred while hiking, 6. The routes you took on the hikes and alternatives you might want to try later. 7. Unique information about the particular hiking trail, and 8. Any inside information provided by locals or other climbers you met. At the end of the hike, you should be able to get the following from your journal: 1. Contact information for other hikers you met, 2. Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you or they hike the location a second time. 3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and 4. Something to pass on to your friends, children and grandchildren. To get the most out of your hiking journal, you should write in it just before you start, during breaks such as lunch and when you return. It is always interesting to see the different impressions you have before and after a hike as well as your mood changes as the hike progresses. On a miserably rainy day in winter, the journal will make for good reading Hiking is a great way to commune with nature and spend a weekend. Make sure to preserve the experience with your hiking journal. Rick Chapo is with nomadjournals.com - makers of hiking journals. Writing journals make great Christmas gifts for him or her. Well-maintained walking paths connect manicured gardens on the west side to forest land on the east side. A highlight of the park is Grenadier Pond, supposedly named for British soldiers who fell through its ice rushing to defend the city from American attack in the War of 1812. High Park, at Bloor Street West and Parkside Drive also sports 24-hour off-leash areas at Dog Hill northeast of the Grenadier Restaurant and west of the Dream Site. Nearby, Bronte Creek Provincial Park, 20 minutes to the south, serves up some pleasant trails to hike with your dog. Although this wide stream travels 32 miles to the mouth of Lake Ontario, it was known as Twelve Mile Creek by settlers who came to operate mills along its many rapids and waterfalls. The village of Bronte, named for the large estate granted Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson for his naval victory in the Battle of Trafalgar, grew up on the stream and became a major port for shipping wheat in the mid 1800s. The creek took the same name in the 1930s. Much of the lands here devoted to agriculture have reverted back to deciduous forests that provide a quiet, pastoral backdrop to canine hiking in Bronte Creek. A selection of short trails explore the best example of prairie vegetation in greater Toronto. Canine hikers will want to head first to the Leash Free Path to let your dog run through tall grass for nearly a mile. All the hiking is non-strenuous on the valley rims along Bronte Creek and the only trail that is not barrier-free is the stacked loop Half Moon Valley Trail. Staircases smooth out any steep segments 80 feet above the busy waters. The longest trail in the park - still not two miles long - is the Ravine Trail. Here a dark coniferous forest guards overlooks of the Bronte Creek ravine. Make your way down to the stream for playful canine aquatics. To find Bronte Creek Provincial Park from the Q.E.W. take Exit 109, Burloak Drive and turn right. The Day Use Area will be on the right hand side. copyright 2006 Doug Gelbert is the author of over 20 books, including The Canine Hiker&#226;€&trade;s Bible. While your bird watching experiences better be more lighthearted, keeping a journal will let you remember them as the years pass. A good bird watching journal combines a number of characteristics. First, it should be compact so you don&#226;€&trade;t have to take up unnecessary space for other things. Second, it should have a case to protect it from rain, spills and so on. Third, the journal should contain blank areas to write your notes. Fourth, the journal should contain cue spaces to remind you to keep notes on specific things. Cues should include: 1. Who you went birding with, 2. Where you stayed and if you enjoyed it, 3. Who you met and contact information for them, 4. The geographic and weather conditions, and 5. The birds you sighted and added to your life list. At the end of the trip, you should be able to get the following from your journal: 1. Contact information for other bird watchers and people you met, 2. Enough detail to provide you or a friend with a guide if you travel to the location a second time. 3. Memories to reflect upon years later, and 4. Something to pass on to your children and grandchildren. To get the most out of your bird watching journal, you should write in it during and immediately after birding. Every sighting brings new experiences even if you&#226;€&trade;re just sitting in your backyard. Bird watching is a great way to commune with nature. Make sure to preserve the experience. Long lines, cumbersome baggage checks, heightened security measures, and the overhanging threat of danger, often make traveling for work or pleasure downright off-putting. Luke 10:1-11, 16-20 shows Jesus commissioning seventy-two followers to go out and share the gospel with those who had never heard its message of salvation. These followers would pave the way for Jesus as he traveled toward Jerusalem. He tells them: Now go, but remember, I am sending you like lambs into a pack of wolves (Luke 10:3, CEV). Did their caution lights go on? Could they sense impending danger? An old adage says to be forewarned is to be forearmed. If ever there was an off-putting journey, this was it. Yet, hymn writer George Duffield, in his classic standard, Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus, exhorts us to let courage rise with danger when we proclaim the gospel of Christ. Further, Jesus tells these ambassadors of the faith not to take some of the items they would normally carry on a trip. No money, no food, no extra footwear (Luke 10:4). Travel light! This was not a luxurious vacation but a dangerous mission. How would they survive? They were to rely on God s provision, and in response to their obedience, all their needs would be met. We, too, are challenged to take the gospel to the world. Like those seventy-two whom Jesus commissioned, we also need to travel light. Often, the creature comforts of this world dull our sense of Christian duty and make us relax while others around us die for want of the gospel. Thus, we need to shake off sloth, dispense of emotional baggage, fear and doubt, and travel light. The sin of pride is a sneaky one. It can creep in even when our deeds start off with the purest of motives. Why did Jesus, on the return of the seventy-two, squelch their exuberance as they recounted how demons obeyed them when they invoked his name? Jesus told them: Don t be happy because evil spirits obey you. Be happy that your names are written in heaven! (Luke 10:20, CEV). Jesus was warning them against the sin of pride, and pointed them to what really mattered. The apostle Paul in his letter to the church at Galatia (Galatians 6:[1-6] 7-16) also challenges his readers to rid themselves of those sins that would hamper them on their Christian journey. Get rid of pride, selfishness, self-righteousness, bragging, and blind obedience to ritual (Galatians 6:3-4, 8), says Paul. Travel light! Realizing how easy it is to become smug with our accomplishments as we follow Christ, Paul warns: If someone is trapped in sin, you should gently lead that person back to the right path. But watch out, and don t be tempted yourself ...If you think you are better than others, when you really aren t, you are wrong... don t compare yourself with others (Galatians 6:1b, 3, 4b, CEV). It takes moral and spiritual fortitude to get rid of everything that slows us down, especially the sin that just won t let go, but we must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete (Hebrews 12:1b, 2a, CEV). You can step out of the city life and general demands of reality and begin fulfilling that childhood dream. So, go ahead and dust off you cowboy hat, put on some boots and get ready to ride. Here are a few ranches available for those seeking the ultimate outdoor adventure and an authentic taste of the West. The family owned Hartley Guest Ranch in Northeastern New Mexico is beautifully situated on over 25,000 acres. It has over two hundred miles of trails through forests containing a variety of trees, mesas and canyons. This ranch has a fantastic stock of horses on which you can take a ride on some of the beautiful trails to get a more intimate view of the scenery. Or, you can get a taste of the all day cattle round-ups moving cattle from pasture to another. All riders go through an orientation at first to match you with the best horse and also evaluate your riding ability. The rides are all guided and vary in length based on the how long the guests want to ride. There are cantering and loping rides also available for guests to enjoy once qualified by a wrangler. Guests can also take experience pack trips and overnight campouts or participate in rounding up the cattle, separating cows from calves and even branding the calves in season. Of course, guests do not have to participate but can simply sit back and watch if they prefer. Guests can also enjoy terrific fishing in nearby ponds close to the lodge, or hike with or without a guide to see ancient Indian sites, dinosaur bones or other unusual geological structures. The Hartley Guest Ranch is also home to many deer, bear, mountain lions, wild turkey and coyotes. The Blue Mountain Cattle Drive is northwest of Cedar City, Utah and is another great option for anyone seeking a real taste of the old West. The famous outlaw Butch Cassidy originated from this area and, actually, some of his descendants work this ranch. Here, you can take part in cattle drive adventures, horse back riding, campfire singing, western entertainment, cattle roping, Chug Wagon dinners and viewing wildlife including deer, elk, wild horses and antelope. Lodging at the ranch includes trail rides, meals, cattle drives and ranch chores to give you an authentic taste of the west as it really was. Finally, you may consider the Grapevine Canyon ranch in Arizona. Here, you can immerse yourself in the rich Indian history and the dragoon Mountains, once home of the famous Geronimo and Apache Chief Cochise. This ranch offers over seventy horses for all levels of riding ability, beautiful trails and even ghost towns to explore. You can also stay in the furnished suits or cabins and enjoy the hot tub, pool, library and game room. The copywriter Johnathan Bakers is especially passionate about themes dealing with Alicante. Shop around, do your math and begin to enjoy your summer vacation right now. Get All The Family Involved Play a game, pinpointing possible places on a map and reach an agreement. It&#226;€&trade;s ideal for a cold, windy weekend in front of a fireplace or around the breakfast table. Once you know where you want to go, or can afford to go, think of the cost and don&#226;€&trade;t be conservative just yet. There will be time to adjust the budget later on, if it gets too tight. So make your checklist, asking everybody to remember what you did and what expenses you had on previous vacations. This is another little game&#226;€&#166; Three Definite Lines Of Expenses First of all, consider traveling expenses. Whether you will be going by car or by plane there is a certain expense. Probably your air tickets for all the family can be financed with your credit card, but we don&#226;€&trade;t want to overload it. There usually are installment plans given by the airline, which can be more convenient and will leave room on the card for extras and unforeseen events. Gas expenses mean you are going nearer, in your car and that will be a smaller sum, but no credit there, I&#226;€&trade;m afraid. Lodging Unless you are planning to spend some time at a friend&#226;€&trade;s house or maybe your old folks&#226;€&trade; place, you will have lodging expenses: Hotel, a mountain cabin, hostel, a beach condo, whatever. This will be your largest expense, naturally depending on how long you are staying, but it is normally an important sum. Extras Extras comprise extra meals, day tours, drinks, cocktails, evening entertainment and awanna. Awanna buy this, awanna buy that. Well, it&#226;€&trade;s supposed to be fun, isn&#226;€&trade;t it? You don&#226;€&trade;t want to start saying &#226;€&oelig;no this, no that&#226;€ to your kids. Sounds funny, but it&#226;€&trade;s all too true. Add Up So, once you&#226;€&trade;ve got everything on your checklist, add everything up and then think where you can get the cash from. There are special loans with a grace period , so that you can start paying when you get back. You have plenty of time to start shopping around for all you need. You may want to get some new clothing or footwear for everyone and that needs time to prepare. You could even start paying now for some of the items and gain time. Now Keep The Family Involved Everybody should have a little chore, like making their own checklist of things they want to take, finding out the cost of entertainments, so as to help with the building of the vacation budget. It will surely be a beautiful holiday and everyone will be looking forward to it and contribute to the planning and preparations with enthusiasm. So, what s hot this fall? Accessories! Lots of belts, handbags and shoes in the lines. With designers like BB Simon, Robbie French and Kippys, who can help but want some of what they ve got? Every designer has their own twist, but the trend is definitely sparkly and bold. BB Simon uses the finest Italian leather to create what have become some of the most sought-after belts in today s market. His unique collection of accessories, adorned with authentic Austrian Swarovski Crystals will bring out an ooh and an aah whether you are an average kind of girl that appreciates pretty things or a member of the elite group enamored with haute couture. BB Simon has belts with crystals in a variety of tints for every conceivable occasion or season; if you don t like what they have in their line-up, you can custom order your own belt. All said, these are some of the most unique belts out there; similar to Kippys, but different. Kippys belts are unique in that you can specify how wide you want them to be. Whether you re looking for a thin quarter inch or you d rather have a bold belt that measures an inch and a half, Kippys will aim to please. Their belts give more of a naughty cowgirl feel when you slip them on. Adorned with crystals as well, this line sometimes skips the crystal-encrusted buckle that BB Simon is famous for and instead goes for a simple and understated solid centerpiece. Loop one of these through your favorite pair of jeans - maybe even a pair from Kippys - and you ll have flash and sass all night long! And don t worry, you can shake it like you love it because Kippys guarantees both the crystals and the craftsmanship for the entire lifetime of the belt. Robbie French spent 10 years in the mix of haute couture running some of the hottest bars in LA before she decided to start her own design company. Thank goodness she did because this girl has what it takes to dress A-list celebrities like Madonna and Nicholas Cage! If you ve never taken a look at her buckles, you re missing out on a gem. Ranging from pirate skulls to a Crucifix belt buckle, Ms. French has everyone covered. On a simple leather belt, these buckles make a statement that will have everyone looking your way - and asking where you got your great accessories! Now that you ve got your buckle down, what are you going to carry on your arm? Fee fe Footwear has some of the hottest bags this season. In dark chocolates and black leather, they will go with anything and carry everything! It looks like the trend this season is headed back towards leather, so get ahead of the curve and grab one of these great bags now. If you re looking for something larger than a purse to do work and social duty, try the new messenger bag from French and French. Accented with ostrich skin and littered with inside pockets to hold your cell phone, pens and files, this bag might just be your new carry-all. Bring out your inner rock star and carry the Volcano leather handbag by BB Simon; just like their belts, their bags are accented with colorful Swarovski Crystals. If you do just one thing this fall, grab a great belt and wear it with everything! Enjoy the trends this upcoming season and if you re wearing one of these designers, anticipate lots of attention! Now, if you are playing in gym class, or in a situation where you are on a hardwood surface, any non slip gym shoe will do. However, soccer shoes are meant to be played on a grassy field. That means they have to be specially made not to slip on the grass so that the player does not get injured. For that reason, soccer shoes are made with cleats, or pointy metal barbs on the bottom, that are designed to dig into the grass, thus giving the player speed but they also prevent the player from slipping so that they do not get injured. When playing with cleats, though, you need to be careful that you don&#226;€&trade;t injure other players. With all that kicking at the ball, injuries can happen but with certain precautions you can play safely and have fun. Dig In Soccer shoes are built with cleats that are meant to dig into the field. This allows the player to gain traction where they normally would not have any. They can also pivot easier, which allows them to get past other players as they move for the goal. If they did not have cleats, they would slip and fall, especially if the grass was wet, and they would not be able to get around other players as much. That&#226;€&trade;s why soccer players can&#226;€&trade;t just wear any shoes if they hope to avoid injury and play well, they must wear proper soccer shoes with cleats designed to dig into the grass and dirt. Avoiding Injury Because soccer shoes have cleats, the possibility for injury is greater. If you&#226;€&trade;ve ever watched a group of soccer players vie for the ball, you probably saw them standing around the ball kicking at it. This brings those cleats awfully close to other players&#226;€&trade; shins, which can cause bruising, cuts or even breaks. For that reason, you have to be careful when wearing soccer shoes. Keep your feet on the ground or on the ball but keep them away from other players&#226;€&trade; shins so that everyone can stay injury free. You can find soccer shoes at any sporting goods store or even on the internet. Just remember that if you&#226;€&trade;re playing with friends in a fun, friendly game, regular tennis shoes should do the trick. If you&#226;€&trade;re playing on an actual team, competitively, then you want to get real soccer shoes to prevent injury and so that you can play at your best. Down, a hectic tourist town in summer, but agreeably quiet and deserted in January. What I like about Ireland is the unassailable logic of the way things are done here. When the Express bus from Belfast made an unscheduled stop at the grocers to enable the driver to deliver the bread, I was mildly surprised. The next stop, to deliver magazines at the newsagents seemed perfectly reasonable. By the time the bus driver had dropped off a complete exhaust system at the garage, it seemed madness to do it any other way - why wait a week for the next delivery when the bus is going past the front door in an hour? By 10.30, I m at Bloody Bridge, named for a famous massacre, at the start of the walk into the Mournes. There are ten summits over 2000 feet and the range covers around 80 square miles of unspoilt mountain and moorland scenery. They are volcanic in origin, then carved into horseshoe valleys by glaciation, but with rocky outcrops, called nunataks, that poked through the ice-sheet and escaped the scouring effect of the retreating glaciers. They aren t huge, none of the peaks reaches the 3000 foot mark, but they are dramatic and shapely, and the Mourne Wall, which runs like a scaled-down version of the Great Wall of China over the summits, is a highly-distinctive feature, and a useful navigational aid to boot! In fact, in the 100mph gusts that threatened to hurl me into the Irish Sea yesterday, the wall acted as a windbreak when it was almost impossible to remain standing. At 12.45 I reached the summit of Slieve Donard, the highest peak of the Mournes at 2796 feet, shared a very welcome nip of whiskey with the only other walkers I met all day, then headed up Slieve Commedagh, with glorious views of Slieve Binnian and Slieve Bearnagh with their rocky turrets and pinnacles, the wall making an unlikely ascent of each peak it encounters. Although the wind blew remorselessly from the south-west all day, apart from the odd hail squall, the skies were clear and the views were fantastic, taking in all the peaks of the Mournes, and the surrounding countryside, as well as the gentler rolling hills of the south. I ambled down the ridge, or rather I was propelled down the ridge by a fierce gale, avoiding the rock crags which plummet down into the valley, sinking knee-deep into a foot of soggy Irish peat bog on several occasions. The final part of the route takes you through the mixed plantation of the Donard Forest, then it s a short stroll to the seafront, and that pint of Guinness at Percy French s bar, and time to reflect on a perfect mountain day, magnificent scenery, great people, and the opportunity to visit a place I had never previously considered as a walking destination, but one to which I plan to return. Simon Kirwan is a photographer with a passion for the outdoors. He spends as much time as possible visiting the mountains and wild places of Britain and the world. After visiting Nepal and photographing the Himalayas in 1999, Simon was named Observer Outdoor Photographer of the Year 2000 . He has since travelled overland across East Africa visiting Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe; in addition, he has photographed the mountain ranges of Europe including the Spanish Pyrenees, the French and Italian Alps, and the Polish Tatras. Despite his love of travel and the excitement of visiting new destinations, Simon is equally happy to wander the hills and mountains of Britain s countryside, especially Snowdonia, the Peak District and the Lake District where he can indulge his love of mountain walking and scrambling as well as photographing the ever-changing landscape. Life in the cubicle just isn&#226;€&trade;t cutting it, is it? No, you need space, adventure, air, real air, fresh, rarefied, crisp sweet air filling your lungs with the endless blue of the sky. A Canadian Rockies tour will help you breathe that blue. Oh, and the scenery ain&#226;€&trade;t bad either. Rich farmlands, scenic forests and sparkling lakes, hot springs, and some of the most beautiful cities of Western Canada all laid out at your feet from the peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It&#226;€&trade;s time to take a tour and experience the wonder and boundless freedom of the North Country. So how do you set up your Canadian Rockies tour? What do you want to see? What should you see? How should you best see it? First, a quick introduction to the Canadian Rockies: These mountains Tower over the plains of Alberta and British Columbia. This is a land still wild and unspoiled, still home to abundant wildlife, a land of majestic snowy peaks, glittering glacial lakes, thundering waterfalls and cyclopean trees. The Rocky Mountains themselves offer an extensive variety of year round activities including rock climbing and heli-hiking in the summer and of course the skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports that the region is so famous for. Every type of hiking from short and easy to long overnight challenges is available. Horseback riding and virtually every conceivable land sport are present. With the variety and prevalence of lakes and rivers every type of inland water sport can also be enjoyed - white-water rafting, fly-fishing, golf and incredible kayaking to name but a few. Overall there are so many activities available in the Canadian Rockies that it would not be possible to name them all here. One of the most frustrating things about planning a tour like this is how to get to everything. The answer is very simple: you don&#226;€&trade;t. Your vacation is after all, a vacation, and should be tailored to your tastes, with no pressure to get everything done. There are considerable resources available to aid in planning your perfect Canadian Rockies Tour, and the only mistake you can truly make is to not avail yourself of these services, which can help you plan the perfect vacation, allowing you to experience a bit of everything, focusing on your interests and needs, but never making you feel rushed or sad that you missed out on anything. Also, you will need to research the more practical aspects of your tour, namely travel accommodations (many tour packages do not include air fare so keep this in mind when preparing your budget), hotel reservations, the length of the tour, etc. In addition, you will want to figure out what kind of a tour you are interested in. A couples&#226;€&trade; tour can be a very different endeavor than a family tour, where a group tour with strangers is different from a group tour with friends. A Canadian Rockies Tour arranged by a tour planning company offers the perfect solution; they have the expertise to arrange a truly exceptional tour that will take in the very best an area has to offer, and yet they offer total independence and freedom for the individual, couple, family, or small group. The Canadian Rockies brings serenity and excitement together in one magnificent package. You deserve an adventure, and the Great White North awaits you. Let the Canadian Rockies Tour provide the space, the sights, and the journey to bring you closer to nature and those you love. As they do, you will appreciate the warm water, friendly atmosphere and uncrowded waves of the ocean. Bathsheba is famous for its thundering barrels and fast walls, and locals and visiting surfers have enjoyed the surfing hear for years. This fishing village turns into a high activity hot spot in November when the waves are at their prime and the small village hosts the International Surfing Championship. Surfers typically rent local bay houses and socialize with the local residents, enjoying the friendly atmosphere when not enjoying the waves. If you water skiing is your passion, you should head over to Ski Paradise in Acapulco, Mexico or to Torrevieja and Murcia in Spain . Water Ski Magazine rated it one of the best ski sites in the world. Regardless of your skill level, you will have a great time at Ski Paradise. It is the ultimate sports vacation and offers great accommodations and terrific instructors if you need to improve your skills. Ski Paradise also offers tennis, sport fishing and golf. At night, you can also experience the vibrant night life of the area and fabulous food. These are only a few of the top hot sports for those seeking some water sport adventure. I didn t do well in spelling, grammar, speech or writing. I gave a speech once on why I shouldn t have to give a speech (I think I got a D on it). I did like literature because I loved to read, but hated writing the book reports. If someone would have told me then that someday I would be teaching, preaching, writing reports and stories, as well as thinking about writing a book, I would never have believed them. Now I am not only doing these things but also actually enjoying them. Even more surprising is that some people say they enjoy reading what I write! And thank God for computers and spell checkers, which have been a big factor in this. First of all I want to say thanks to God for allowing me to be here in Peru. The first four months or so here in Peru were very difficult emotionally. Now I am beginning to realize how hard it is going to be to leave here in two months! Lord willing, I plan on returning, which makes it a lot easier. So what DID I do for Thanksgiving anyway you may be asking by now. My friend Morayma, and three of her friends, who are all studying tourism, wanted to see the tourist sights, meet the people and learn about the culture here in Cotahuasi and surrounding villages. We visited many of the sights that Cotahuasi Canyon is famous for, including the Rock Forest Huito , ancient ruins of Callac and Maucallacta, the waterfalls of Sipia and Uskuni, thermal baths at Luicho, as well as the villages of Puica, Pampamarca, Alca, and Charcana. We also talked with the mayors in each of these villages and the girls asked them many questions about the people, customs, tourist attractions and problems. Each mayor said the big problems are alcoholism, domestic violence and government subsidies. The first two problems I see or hear about almost every day and were nothing new, but I was surprised to hear them mention the subsidies. Why are they a problem? The children get free breakfast and lunch in the schools, as well as free health care. The mothers get free health care and food for their babies. There are also various non-government organizations that provide various services and meet some needs. We as missionaries are besieged with requests to help meet financial and material needs wherever we go, which we sometimes provide. As a result of all these good intentions and acts, many of the people have began to expect these helps as their rights and have become lazy. They don t need to work to care for their family so they work just enough to get by or to buy as much alcohol as they want. If the husband isn t home drunk and abusing his family, the wife is just as likely to be doing it. Almost no one produces more than just enough for their own needs. Transportation of products to market is difficult but is becoming easier every day with new roads being built. There needs to be a change in the hearts and minds of the people to bring about a change in their lives. We were able to visit with Isedoro and his family in Suni, where we received a warm welcome as usual. The girls were playing with the kids and working in the kitchen with his wife Monica, shelling dry habas (like a lima bean) by walking on them on the dirt floor, and then roasting them and maiz (corn) over a wood fire. I had briefly shared with them how Isedoro had once been an alcoholic and used to beat his wife. After accepting Christ he has changed totally. He is now leading the church in Suni, studying the Bible and leadership training, and helping with the ministry in Chulca, Cushpa and other villages above Suni. He and his family are a beautiful testimony to the power of God to change lives. Many of the villages have just recently received, and more will soon receive, electricity. This would seem to make it much easier to spread the gospel, as now they have lights and it is much easier to have Bible studies and church services at night. But most of the larger villages also provide a rebroadcast of satellite TV so now the people spend their spare time watching TV. If not in their homes, then standing in front of the open doors of stores, watching the TV inside. On Thursday we drove to the end of the under construction road to Charcana. We had been told that is was only a half hour s walk from there to Charcana. After parking the car at the construction camp, climbing across a rock slide from the blasting and realizing that we had much more than a 30 minute walk, we were met by a young man with burros. He said that he had been sent to meet a group and wondered if it was us. We said we didn t know but Evelyn, Roseangela and some of the backpacks got to ride, which went well except for Roseangela getting dumped once when her burro decided to sit down. About 20 minutes from Charcana I got really cold so put on my jacket, which helped as long as we were walking. When we arrived in Charcana (after a two hour walk!), we checked into our rooms at the hostel and I started to shiver from the cold. The rest said they weren t cold so I realized that it was just me. I put on two more jackets, got in bed in my sleeping bag, covered up with blankets, and drank two cups of hot tea before I finally stopped shivering. I felt OK then but stayed in bed while the women prepared Thanksgiving dinner, chicken noodle soup with tuna, which we ate along with a couple of pieces of dry bread. Probably a good thing that there wasn t any pecan pie as I spent the night back and forth to the bathroom with diarrhea. Needless to say, I had to skip the four hour hike up to see the cave paintings and stone arch above Charcana on Friday. Morayma graciously insisted on staying with me to make sure I was OK so she didn t get to go either. The others hired a guide and horses to take them up the steep mountain trail. Unfortunately, when they left at 5:00 am, they forgot to get the camera from Morayma so they didn t get any pictures. Poor Roseangela, riding a horse this time, she took a header when the horse made a quick stop. I had also hoped to visit with Maritza, whom I had transported back to Cotahuasi with Dr. Ana, almost two years before, to get treatment for a broken leg. She was a victim of abuse by her husband, when they were both drunk, he pushed her and she fell into a hole, receiving compound fractures. She was working out in the field this time so unfortunately I didn t get to visit with her. It wasn t a traditional Thanksgiving for me but I m thankful for the good time we had and that by Saturday I was feeling fine and able to hike back to the car. The original inhabitants of the Cape region were the Khoi San people whose ancestry can be traced back thousands of years, through the discovery of fossils and artifacts, to the origins of humanity in Central Africa. The Mother City as Cape Town has become known over the years was the first South African port established by European settlers in the 16th century. Dutch sailors working for the VOC - Dutch East India Company set up a refreshment station at the Cape. They also established the Company Gardens in the city which was used to provide passing ships on route to the West Indies with fresh produce. The gardens still exist and have been cultivated and transformed into a place of relaxation for Capetonians. The first slaves were brought in to the Cape from Madagascar in the 17th century to help run the refreshment station. This immigration continued until 1834 and was expanded to include slaves from African countries such as Angola and Mozambique, the West Indies and Sri Lanka. The Islam religion which is now a part of modern Cape culture was brought to Cape Town by revered Muslim leaders known as Sheikhs who had been banished to the Cape from Indonesia, by the Dutch. Islam quickly spread among the slaves, became a part of their culture and was passed on down through their descendants. Various languages were spoken in those early days but the most predominant was Malay. Gradually the Afrikaans language, a simplified form of Dutch containing elements of Malay and originally used for communicating with their masters, took over among the slaves. It spread inland throughout South Africa when descendants of Cape Dutch and French settlers trekked north to colonise the interior and eventually establish the Afrikaner nation. The Cape Malays of today with their unique Muslim cultural heritage, and the Christian coloured community descended from mixed blood unions between the early settlers, the indigenous Khoi and the slaves who brought their African Indian culture into the Cape. In the 17th century British settlers arrived and annexed the Cape declaring it a British Colony. They developed the city of Cape Town using slave labour. Slavery was eventually abolished in the 19th century. The British went on to develop and colonise South Africa. Elements of their influence in the Cape are still visible in the architecture of many buildings in the surrounding coastal towns eg. Simonstown Cape Town Attractions: The ancient Table Mountain often draped in swirling cloud and flanked by its attendants Devil s Peak and Lion s Head, forms an impressive backdrop to the sprawling city of Cape Town and is a well known subject for many postcards and photographs. It stands at the head of a chain of mountains forming the Cape Peninsula National Park which follow the line of the Peninsula to Cape Point. On the eastern slopes of Table Mountain lie the well known Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens the largest of its kind in South Africa, and home to thousands of varieties of indigenous plants. The oldest wine farm in the country, Groot Constantia, established in the 17th century is situated on the lower slopes of the Back Table Its modernised winery is in full production. The rugged Cape coast is dotted with upmarket suburbs, quaint fishing villages and stretches of sandy beaches separated by massive rocky outcrops - remnants of the original geological formations from which Table Mountain developed. The well known extensive Winelands and historic Cape towns such as Stellenbosch, FranchHoek and Paarl, interspersed with rugged mountain ranges are situated an hour or two away, inland. Cape Town is known for its historic and unique architecture which is still apparent in the city and many of the surrounding communities. It has developed from a number of diverse influences such as Cape Dutch, British and Muslim. The original stone fort, oldest building in South Africa, now significantly upgraded and known as the Castle, was built on the early shoreline by the Dutch in about 1670 to repel invaders. Another well known city landmark is the Groote Kerk (big church) built around 1700. Cape Town s location at the juncture of the Atlantic and Indian oceans, and the influence of the nearby mountain ranges on prevailing air currents means that the Cape experiences a Mediterranean type climate with dry warm to hot summers cooled by south easterly winds, and cool wet winters. The Atlantic sea temperature off the west coast is generally a few degrees colder than that of the Indian Ocean. The commercial centre in the city bowl comprises modern high rise office blocks and hotels often sandwiching smaller historic buildings built in the original Cape Dutch style. The new Cape Town Convention Centre (CTICC) on the Foreshore is a popular venue for trade exhibitions and music festivals. The thriving upmarket Cape Town VandA Waterfront is a major attraction for tourists and locals alike. It has developed into one of the most popular venues in the country with its combination of modern retail outlets, artistic markets and laid back entertainment, and is crowded throughout the year. You ve heard of the Garden Route, but you are not much into gardens, so what does this famous part of South Africa offer the visitor? The Garden Route stretches from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape down to Cape Town in the Western Cape, some 800 plus kilometres of spectacular coastline. Contrary to its name it is not all about gardens, but about wonderful scenery rich in variety and includes many diverse activities. Here, in no particular order are just 7 of the most popular activities you will find to make your safari in South Africa one of the best you ll ever take. 1. Stay at one of the many malaria-free game lodges for your safari in South Africa. See the Big 5 game in spectacular surroundings, some of which are a stones throw from the magnificent golden sands of the Indian Ocean. 2. Discover the splendour of the Tsitsikama Forest. Take a hike through the beauty of this indigenous forest. Perhaps take a treetop canopy tour or spend some time on the Otter Trail. 3. Not only is the above-ground loveliness of the Garden Route open for exploration, but the underground caves at Cango are a must! Known to man since the early Stone Age, these caves are more than just stalactites and stalagmites and at a steady warm temperature are a pleasure to visit even on the hottest day. 4. Take a safari journey on the Outeniqua Choo-Choo! Clinging to the coastline from George to Knysna, this steam train is one of the best attractions of the Garden Route. Chugging across the Knysna lagoon, into the lush green valleys and sheer cliffsides on its voyage, a window seat captures the excitement to its fullest. 5. Traverse the hair-pin bends down to Nature s Valley where the river forms a dark water lagoon which escapes over the wide sandy beach towards the sea and we are sure you will agree with us that its name is perfect! 6. Head to the hills to find them thur Gold . The gold rush started in the hills behind Knysna before finding its feet in Kimberley and Johannesburg. A very unlikely place to have spawned an industry which now dictates so much of our lives, but you can marvel at how they found the gold and then extracted it on this fascinating tour. 7. After all the excitement, head for Knoetsie Beach. Hidden away off the beaten track, travel through the forest to make the climb down to this heavenly beach where the ocean thunders onto the beach, overlooked by three castles. Check out the peace and tranquillity, even in high summer you ll find only a handful of people sharing your idyll. I invite you to use these tips to make the most of your safari in South Africa and on the Garden Route. They are the unpleasant and even horrendous experiences of life. How can we deal with them when they happen and how can we prepare for them before they happen? On Thursday 12th January 2006, I head butted a pile of chairs. I was pursuing a student with a fake knife to help him learn how to evade a knife attack. He evaded brilliantly. As I missed him, I tripped and crashed to the ground falling heavily on my knees. My progress along the floor was stopped as I rammed my head into a pile of chairs. Blood was dripping from my head to the ground and I felt as if I had been in a car crash. My first thought, as a motivational writer, was: What is good in this situation?! There was a lot. I still had my eyesight even though things appeared a little fuzzy and I still had intact knee caps. It was also the end of the lesson so no one could ask for their money back! The scar that would be left on my head for a while would give me street cred as a martial arts instructor. When you are too old to look beautiful it is better to look tough. The incident also gave me first hand experience of looking on the bright side. This viewpoint is always worth describing since so many humans have to face the dark side of life on a regular basis. It is a commonplace that when you are in an accident or other stressful situation, you can relieve stress by considering the positives. Crashing to the floor, will make me a better instructor. I will take better care of my students and make sure that they are not wearing the wrong footwear (as I stupidly was) and are not over committed (as I stupidly was). I can also take the incident as a warning to be more careful in future in everything I do that involves risk. I will make sure I always wear a seat belt even for short car journeys. Accidents occur when you are not expecting them. The least you can do is be prepared for them. I was moved by the support of my students. One insisted that he would take me to hospital. I told him I was fine and, in the end, I just drove myself home. I preferred an early night to hanging round in a chilly hospital full of dodgy bacteria. Two of my black belt instructors phoned next day to check up on me and one of my more recent students emailed me to see if I was OK. Even her mum was concerned. Such support can definitely cheer you up in times of stress. The incident allowed various talents to emerge. One of my students was a vet who did a great job of patching me up. My sister commented on how cheerful I was after a good sleep. I would not have been so cheerful if there had been permanent damage to my eyes or knee caps. It is easy to recover from an unpleasant incident where there is no permanent damage. Just realize the fact that things could have been much, much worse and take steps to avoid a repeat performance. Being cheerful is not so easy if you suffer permanent damage but again the principle is the same. Look for the positives. Many people are worse off than you or me. Christopher Reeve suddenly became worse off than billions when he fell off his horse. And even Christopher could have been worse off than he already was if he had suffered brain damage as well as paralysis and if he had not had the support of a loving family. Money usually helps in any tough situation. One reason I have started an internet business in info publishing is to be able to help any member of my family if they need special treatment or care. The old are too often treated with too little respect. If they have plenty of money in their old age, the respect is still there. Having plenty of money cannot replace having good health but it can certainly alleviate your problems when you find yourself in a stressful situation. Money is a great stress reliever! Being able to pay for any expensive drugs you might need can make a huge difference. We need to make plenty of money while we are still able to. Even a minor accident can severely limit the power, focus and energy you need when you are trying to make money. Age, too, can sneak up on us with unexpected health problems and increased stresses. Let s focus on the best but also spend some time preparing for the worst. Thorough preparation for the future is a great stress reliever and there is no time like the present to start preparing. If you are not yet in a stressful situation, make sure you are ready for it if and when it comes. Another way to deal with stress, even the worst kind, is to see the funny or unexpected side of it. Joan Rivers is famous for relieving stress by looking at the funny side of age, death and even suicide. At a performance in England, she was almost in tears as she remembered the suicide of her husband and the way the news came first to her fifteen year old daughter, Melissa. Melissa felt especially upset as she had been the last to speak to her father on the phone and had not realized what he was planning. Joan felt she had lost Melissa until they had a meal in a restaurant together. Joan daringly relieved her daughter s stress by commenting: If daddy were alive and saw these prices he would kill himself all over again. Melissa smiled for the first time since her father s death. Many people are currently stressed by the fear of bird flu. Joan, typically, sees a benefit in this situation: Something wonderful has happened. We are all going to die from bird flu, so we can eat what we like. The city of Murcia is located on the Segura River in the south-eastern part of Spain. It was built near an area of valleys surrounded by mountains, known as the market garden of Murcia. It shares the coastline with nearby Torrevieja, Spain, another popular tourist destination along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to the nearby beaches, there is a lot to see and do while in Murcia such as museums, cathedrals and festivals, for example. The Museum of Science and Water is a hands-on, interactive museum. All of the displays, experiments and demonstrations center around the theme of water. Occasional shows and exhibitions also revolve around this water theme. There is also a planetarium which kids will surely enjoy. Another popular Murcia sight to visit is the Cathedral of the Dioceses of Cartegena-Murcia. This cathedral contains a combination of different architectural styles including Gothic, Renaissance, Rococo and Baroque. The majority of the construction was done between 1394 and 1465 and, ultimately, finished in 1972. The Bishop&#226;€&trade;s palace, known as the Palacia Episcopal, is located near this cathedral. It was constructed during the eighteenth century and is home to the local bishop. If you enjoy water, you will definitely not want to miss out on the beautiful beaches in the area. The climate is usually warm, sunny and perfect for an afternoon at the beach. The Mar Menor is a small sea separated from the Mediterranean Sea. Next to the river is a landscaped square called The Glorieta. This square is a great place to visit and enjoy a walk. It is also a great shopping area. As with many areas on the Costa Blanca, several festivals are held in Murcia throughout the entire year. Most festivals and celebrations correspond with religious holidays, such as Christmas, the Festival of the Three Kings, Easter and many of the Catholic holy days. The Holy Week Processions are the most famous celebrations in the city of Murcia. Museum sculptures are paraded to represent the life of Christ through to the time of the crucifixion. Candle light processions are also popular at both the daytime and night processions. Fortunately, there is an airport directly in the city providing for more convenient travel. The Murcia-San Javier airport is located approximately twenty-eight miles (45 kilometers) from Murcia. Though it is a smaller airport, most of the major carriers offer flights into Murcia from many European cities. When looking for a light, be sure to compare airfare prices for each carrier. The internet is a good place to search available flights, schedules and prices. It is a good idea to look at a few travel websites, as not all airlines are listed on all travel sites. You may also need to call some discount airlines directly to get the best deal possible. It may take some extra time, but the money saved may be worth it in the end. Robert Carlton pens predominantly for alicante-spain.com , a web publication on Spain , Torrevieja and other themes. These mountains are extinct volcanoes, with Kilimanjaro actually being the agglomeration of three distinct volcanoes, Kibo (5896m/ 19,340 ft), Mwenzi (5,149 / 16,896 ft) and Shira (3,962m / 13,000 ft). whose violent creation is geologically associated with the creation of the Great Rift Valley, 100km to the West. The East African mountains have created a micro-climate around themselves and the rain-shadow created to their South and East supplies the beautiful and superbly fertile land in which the towns of Moshi and Arusha are situated, full of banana groves and coffee plantations. Kilimanjaro National Park comprises all of the mountain above the tree line and six forest corridors that stretch through the forest belt. Origin of the name Kilimanjaro : There are many explanations for how the Mount Kilimanjaro got its name and no one can agree what is the truth. Mountain of Greatness , Mountain of Whiteness , Mountain of Caravans , are all names derived from the Swahili and Chagga dialects. From what we little know on the subject, it is thought it might have something to do with the Swahili word kilima , which means top of the hill . There is also a claim that the word kilemakyaro exists in the Chagga language, meaning impossible journey . But the truth is that no one really knows and is a good discussion point of where the name Mount Kilimanjaro came from.. Mount Kilimanjaro History In the second century AD, Ptolemy, the Greek astronomer and cartographer, wrote of mysterious lands to the south of modern day Somalia that contained man-eating barbarians and a great snow mountain . This knowledge he must have gained from the Phoenicians, who had circumnavigated Africa by this date. Ptolemy s account stands as the first documented reports of Africa s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro. The next thousand years, however, brings no mention of this great African mountain - Kilimanjaro. As the coast of East Africa rose in prominence as a trading route after the establishment of Arab rule in the sixth century, the main hub of activity centered around the island of Zanzibar and the immediate mainland known at the time as Zinj. The Arabs had at their disposal, an almost unlimited supply of ivory, gold rhinoceros horn and a far more lucrative and mobile commodity, slaves. The great slave caravans that ventured far into the interior would have passed close by to the mountain to collect water from the permanent streams but it was the Chinese traders of the twelfth century that were next to record observations of a great mountain west of Zanzibar. Kilimanjaro was to remain a mountain of myth and superstition throughout the centuries - one of the great secrets of interior of the dark continent . It was the desire to find the source of the Nile that drove British explorers and geographers to first head inland towards the mysterious mountain around 1840 onwards. Up until then Kilimanjaro had been tall tale told by the Arab traders of Zanzibar. No one really believed that there was a snow-capped mountain on the equator. On 16th October 1847, Rebmann a missionary, with the help of eight tribesmen and Bwana Kheri, a caravan leader, set off for the mountain of Kasigau, where they hoped to establish the first of mission posts. The journey went well and they returned to Mombasa on the 27th of the same month. Along the way they had heard the stories of the great mountain Kilimansharo , whose head was above the clouds and topped with silver , around whose feet lived the mountain s people, the fearsome Jagga (now Chagga). Krapf immediately sought permission from the governor of Mombasa for an expedition to Jagga. His official reason was to find areas suitable for mission stations, but the legendary mountain was becoming of increasing interest to the two missionaries. Disregarding warnings about the spirits of the mountain , on the 27th April 1848, Rebmann and Bwana Kheri set off for Jagga and within just two weeks was standing on the great steppe of East Africa within sight of Kilimanjaro ... the first European to set eyes on the mountain. There really were snowfields on the African equator. In April 1849, Rebmann s observations were published in the Church Missionary Intelligenciers and although not properly substantiated until twelve years later, it remains the first confirmed report of Mount Kilimanjaro. The first of Mount Kilimanjaro ascent in 1889 In 1887, Professor Hans Meyer, a German geographer, made his first attempt upon the summit of Kibo. Accompanied by Baron Von Eberstein, Meyer was eventually defeated by a combination of thick snow, 30m ice walls and his partner s altitude sickness. After an aborted expedition in 1888, Meyer returned the following year accompanied by the famous Alpinist, Ludwig Purtscheller and a well organised support group determined to scale the peak. The climbers came prepared with state of the art equipment and established a base camp on the moorland from where porters ferried fresh supplies of food from Marangu. Daunted by the precipitous ice cliffs of the northern crater rim and the extensive ice flows to the south, the two climbers agreed that the best chance of success lay by tackling the less severe incline of the south eastern slope of the Kilimanjaro mountain. From their advance camp at 4300m the two climbers set off at 01.00hrs and reached the lower slopes of the glacier at about 10.00hrs. Although the glacier was not as steep or high as the walls encountered on Meyer s previous attempt, its incline never went below 35 degrees and ice steps had to be cut. Progress was slow but after 2 hours the men reached the upper limits of the glacier where the incline decreased. A further 2 hours of painful trekking through waist high snow and over deep weathered ice grooves found the climbers at the rim of the crater with the summit in sight. However time and strength were running out and the summit was still another 150m above them, so they returned to advance camp to try again after three days. This time the route was clearly marked and the previously cut ice steps had held their shape. The rim of the Mount Kilimanjaro was reached in 6 hours and at exactly 10.30hrs Meyer became the first recorded person to set foot on the highest point in Africa. Although Meyer and Purtscheller laid the trail for further ascents on Kilimanjaro, there was not an instant queue of would-be climbers. It wasn t until 1912, over 20 years later, when a path from Marangu was established and the first huts at Mandera and Horombo were built by Dr. E Forster for the newly formed German Kilimanjaro Mountain Club, that activity began in earnest. Mount Kilimanjaro was born of the catastrophic movements in the Earth s crust that created the Great Rift Valley that runs from the Red Sea through Tanzania to Southern Africa. Around 25 million years ago East Africa was a huge flat plain that buckled and ruptured after the African and Eurasian Continental Plates rebounded off each other causing huge rifting and weak spots in the thinning crust that led to the formation of many volcanoes in the region. Where the original valley was deepest, the volcanic activity was greatest eventually forming the huge volcanoes of Ngorongoro Crater on the Rift itself and a string of volcanoes to the East including Meru, Kenya and Kilimanjaro. Ecology Mount Kilimanjaro has five major zones and the activity within each of these is controlled by the five factors of altitude, rainfall, temperature, flora and fauna. Each zone occupies an area approximately 1000m in altitude and is subject to a corresponding decrease in rainfall, temperature and life from the forest upwards. Mount Kilimanjaro is a perfectly shaped volcano still active rising sheer from the plains. At 5895m it is the highest in Africa and is snow capped. Mount Kilimanjaro can be climbed any time of the year but there is usually a lot more rain during April, May and November. At the lower levels, you will pass through cultivated farmlands rising through tropical rain forest onto alpine meadows and finally the barren landscape leading to the snow and ice capped summit. The lower levels also offer the chance to view a wide variety of animals, birds and fauna in their natural habitat. There are five major Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing routes through the forest and moor land areas before joining the south circuit path between 3500m and 4500m they are; Kilimanjaro Machame route, Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu route, Kilimanjaro Climbing Lemosho Route, Kilimanjaro Rongai Route and Climbing Kilimanjaro Umbwe route. From Mount Kilimanjaro south circuit path various walking (trekking), scrambling, and technical climbing trails take you the last 1200m or so to the summit. Most people however take the final leg of the Kilimanjaro Marangu route unless you are a technical climber in which case the summit may be reached via Rebman glacier, decken glacier or heim glacier amongst others. The final trekking Kilimanjaro ascent to the summit starts normally at about 2.00 am from Kibo hut so that it is reached before dawn to watch the sunrise and gaze out over the vast expanses of African bush land from the roof of Africa - Mount Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro National Park is the area above 2,700 meters on the mountain. Kilimanjaro National Park includes the moorland and highland zones, Shira Plateau, Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. In addition, the Kilimanjaro Park has six corridors or rights of way through the Kilimanjaro Forest Reserve. The Forest Reserve, which is also a Game Reserve, was established in 1921; the Park was established in 1973 and officially opened in 1977. Sample some of the available climbing routes: 1. However, unlike those famous parks, the Appalachian Trail is not a concentrated preserve, with campgrounds and paths within its boundaries. The 281 miles (452 km) of the trail in Maine are particularly difficult. More moose are seen by hikers in this state than any other on the trail. The northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail is on Katahdin s Baxter Peak in Baxter State Park. The western section includes a mile-long (1.6 km) stretch of boulders at Mahoosuc Notch, often called the trail s hardest mile. Also, although there are dozens of river and stream fords on the Maine section of the trail, the Kennebec River is the only one on the trail that requires a boat crossing. The most isolated portion in the state (and arguably on the entire trail) is known as the 100-Mile Wilderness. This section heads east-northeast from the town of Monson and ends outside Baxter State Park just south of Abol Bridge. Undoubtedly the most important difference between the Appalachian Trail and other national-park units is that volunteers make it possible. Each year, thousands of people maintain, patrol, and monitor the footpath and its surrounding lands. From the Highlands of Roan in Tennessee to the strenuous trek up Katahdin in Maine, the Appalachian Trail stretches over 14 different states: Maine - 281 Miles , New Hampshire - 161 Miles, Vermont - 146 Miles, Massachusetts - 90 Miles, Connecticut - 52 Miles, New York - 88 Miles, New Jersey - 74 Miles, Pennsylvania - 232 Miles, Maryland - 41 Miles, West Virginia - 2 Miles, Virginia - 544 Miles, Tennessee-North Carolina - 371 Miles and Georgia - 75 Miles In it s diverse route the Appalachian Trail and passes through more than 60 federal, state, and local parks and forests. Hundreds of roads cross it. In some parts, the Trail &#226;€&oelig;corridor&#226;€ is only a few hundred feet wide. The Appalachian Trail is an adventure of a lifetime with it s true beautiful wilderness, wild animals and all! Don t miss it! Chanel watches are known as much for their appearance and price as the unique materials which are used in their construction. Chanel was a late entrant on the scene of wrist watches, and a rather surprising one. The name Chanel of course, was originally made famous as the company founded by Coco Chanel. Her hats, clothing and other apparel items were famed for moving away from the constrictive clothing and boning which had been the rule prior to her popularity. Instead of corsets, Chanel clothing featured comfort, elegance and clean lines. The little black dress and the Chanel suit featuring a knee length skirt, a boxy jacket with black trim and gold buttons became the epitome of fashionable women s clothing. As her designs gained in popularity and the clean elegant lines replaced the fussiness of the Victorian era, it is not surprising that the designs for Chanel watches which appeared on the scene in 1987 featured the same classic elegance as did her line of clothing. Although Coco Chanel was not an active participant in the company which bore her name for many years prior to her death in the 1970s, the concept of quality, elegance and dependability have marked the production of all products, including watches which are marketed under the name Chanel. Chanel watches have the production and design facilities located in Switzerland s center for Swiss watchmaking, La Chaux-de-Fonds. The watches which are introduced under the name Chanel form innovative and unique collections. They retain their reputation as the sophisticated and elegant products of the House of Chanel, but feature designs which appeal to the avant-garde. Because of the power of the name, as well as to the earned reputation for quality and beauty, Chanel watches in the price range of $7000 have been produced. Chanel watch designers are recognized not only for their quality of the watch design but for the creation and production of unusual watch straps. Innovative materials are used in the production of the watches themselves. For instance, watches of high tech ceramics and tungsten carbide are included in the Chanel line. Those who select Chanel watches know that each watch is individually numbered and has passed tests for scratch resistance as well as water resistance. The quality and durability of Chanel watches make a two-year guarantee on the watch a great selling point. Today, the House of Chanel produced watches are still very much in demand with a new generation of wearers. The J12 is the first unisex watch for Chanel and is characterized by clean lines and both masculine and feminine features, making it a watchmaking revolution. For younger women, Chanel introduced the Coco Mademoiselle and the Chanel In-Between Wear, both in 2003. Replica watches patterned after Chanel are very popular for the classic lines and unusual materials, just like those of the original, although at a much reduced price. The well-groomed slopes of the Rocky Mountains have proven to be a magnet for many European skiers happy to wave to goodbye to the Alps in exchange for the more predictable Coloradon snowfall. The chalet business, however, has remained unique to the Alps with European ski lovers venturing across the Atlantic left to their own devices in self-catered condominiums. For the Americans, chalet holidays are still a foreign concept, which few have heard of and fewer understand. The European concept of a leisurely meal over several glasses of wine with friends, is not part of the hectic American lifestyle and of course stopping for tea and cake at 4 o clock is not even an option. A few luxury chalets run by Brtis are now appearing in Colorado, notably in little known Winter Park. The resort receives the most snow out of all Coloradon destinations and happens to be the nearest to Denver International, a two-hour shuttle journey away. Winter Park used to be mostly home to weekend warriors the locals driving up from Denver each weekend, which meant empty slopes and rare lift queues. Now a few more destination skiers are discovering this well kept secret and loving the space they have to turn, straight line or fall. Colorado is famous for its soft champagne powder and Winter Park has oodles of the stuff every year, endearing UK skiers to make that special trip across the pond. To set out on the Way to Santiago de Compostella / Saint-Jacques de Compostelle is a spiritual adventure - for on the Camino we may draw on the imprinted energy of the countless pilgrims who have passed this way before us over so many centuries. For the Way of St James has existed for more than a thousand years, and in 1993 the Camino de Santiago was declared a world heritage site. In fact the Way of St James consists of many pilgrim routes which traverse Europe, to converge in the Pyren&#195;&#169;es before traversing Spain. Our ancestors made their way to Santiago using the sun, moon and stars for navigation - indeed the Way is sometimes also referred to as the Via Lactea (the Milky Way). So throughout all of Europe there are many routes and shrines which claim a history of welcoming and caring for pilgrims en route to Santiago, where waymarks of brass or tile scallop shells or distinctive yellow arrows all guide the pilgrim towards Santiago de Compostella. Perhaps the most famous routes through France are the Chemin du Puy / Via Podiensis and the Chemin de V&#195;&#169;zelay / Via Lemovicensis which commence at Le Puy and V&#195;&#169;zelay respectively. There is a photograph gallery of this Chemin St Jacques here . The Chemin du Puy / Via Podiensis is a continuation of the Oberstrasse (the high road) way which crosses central Europe. Many pilgrims come from Poland, Hungary, Germany, Austria and Switzerland via the Oberstrasse way to the shrine of the black madonna at Le Puy. Thus the Chemin du Puy / Via Podiensis is the busiest (and consequently the most developed) of all the routes which cross France. The countryside through which the Chemin du Puy / Via Podiensis passes is exceptionally varied, from the spent volcanoes of the Velay, through the immense wild plateaus of the Aubrac, then to the valleys of the Lot, the Quercy and on to Gascony. The Chemin de V&#195;&#169;zelay / Via Lemovicensis comes from Namur in Belgium, visiting many shrines en route - including those of Sainte-Madeleine at V&#195;&#169;zelay, Saint-Martial at Limoges and Saint-L&#195;&#169;onard de Noblat. Between V&#195;&#169;zelay and Ostabat the way crosses many rivers - the Loire, Vienne, Isle, Dordogne, Garonne - and many, such as the Adour and Gaves were especially perilous for medieval pilgrims. The Chemin de Tours / Via Turonensis / Voie de Paris brings pilgrims from the northern Europe and France togather in Paris. Tours, a major staging point on the route, has long been a place of pilgrimage to the shrine of the 4th century St Martin. Pilgrims came here from as far as Spain to visit his shrine. Unlike the other Chemins St Jacques which pass through France, the Chemin de Tours is comparatively easy, passing through the valley of the Loire, the Touraine, Poitou, Angoumois, Saintonge, Bordelais, and the Landes. The chemin du Pi&#195;&#169;mont pyr&#195;&#169;n&#195;&#169;en brings pilgrims from the Mediteranean regions, passing through the Corbi&#195;&#168;res, the Ari&#195;&#169;geois, Comminges, Bigorre, and the pays des Gaves. North/South axes through the Pyr&#195;&#169;n&#195;&#169;es via the valleys of the Aure, Ossau and Aspe provide links from the col du Somport and Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. This route is little known and may be joined by leaving the Voie d Arles at Montpellier towards Narbonne via Saint-Thib&#195;&#169;ry and B&#195;&#169;ziers (Via Domitia). The Chemin d Arles or Via Aegidiana, the route from Saint-Gilles or Via Arletanensis / Via Tolosana takes it s names from the principal towns and shrines along the way. La Voie du Sud / Camin Romieu is also the route followed by pilgrims (known as Romieux) heading for Rome. For men and women alike Italian shoes are considered to be the absolute best that can be bought anywhere. For as long as there have been shoes it seems that Italian shoemakers have been lauded as the best craftsmen in the world. It goes way beyond the mere selection of materials and the actual making of the shoes. These talented designers also know the structure of the human foot and leg which gives them an advantage over those who do not have the expertise that they do. When we talk about Italian shoes we are actually speaking of the entire footwear industry which includes loafers, sandals, boots and more. Most people get a picture in their minds of the fancy Italian dress shoes when they think of them but the truth is they stand for much more. One of the reasons that Italian made shoes are in such high demand is because they still use the same traditional ways of preparing the leather that they have done for decades and they still sew the uppers by hand instead of with machines which also sets them apart from everyone else. You would think that due to this the shoes would be much more expensive but they really aren&#226;€&trade;t. Like anything they can only charge what the market will bear and the competition from other shoemakers around the world keeps the prices in line. Probably the most popular and famous of Italian shoes are their dress shoes which are in high demand in both men and women&#226;€&trade;s shoes. The Italians are very well known for having a wide array of styles and colors that you can find to match to any outfit. If you have an expensive suit that cost you a thousand dollars it doesn&#226;€&trade;t make sense to pair it with cheap shoes. A good quality pair of Italian dress shoes will complete the look of the suit in a way no other shoe can. Women love shoes made by Italian shoemakers because of not only the quality but the diverse colors that can be found to match any piece of clothing they have as well as just about any handbag color. There are many places you can get Italian shoes but perhaps the best place to find the largest variety is online. Most of the better stores have liberal return policies so you don&#226;€&trade;t have to worry about a proper fit. Shopping online will give you the greatest likelihood that you will find what you want and at the best prices you can get anywhere on the planet. Personally, I love shopping online now more than ever. With gas prices out of site it just makes sense to shop from home. Gregg Hall is an author living in Navarre Beach, Florida. To residents and visitors alike, Idaho is like a big backyard. A vast, year-round playground for adults and children. But, which activities rank as the top ten favorites? Based on personal observations, and not in any particular order, here they are: Fishing For some, fishing means trolling for sizeable lake trout in waters like Idaho&#226;€&trade;s Lake Pend Oreille. For others, tracking down the huge, prehistoric sturgeon in the Snake River is great angling. And, fly fishermen, using insect imitations, ply Idaho&#226;€&trade;s famous blue ribbon streams for the coveted brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout . Hunting Idaho has some of the finest hunting in the Western United States. There are trophy moose, bighorn sheep and mountain goat, plus mule deer and whitetails, as well as elk and antelope. Hunters can also find black bear and mountain lions, along with turkeys, upland birds and waterfowl. Winter Sports If you love winter&#226;€&trade;s snow, downhill skiing leads the Idaho list, with snowboarding and snow tubing gaining popularity each year. Nordic-style cross-country skiing is almost a way of life, and snowshoeing could not be better. Snowmobiling is also quite popular. Groomed trails await, or make your own tracks! In addition, ice skating and ice fishing are both favorite winter activities for many. Hiking Hiking trails of varying difficulty can be found throughout the state. There are trails of under a mile on up to the famed Idaho State Centennial Trail, a 1,200-mile Mother of All Trails that extends the entire length of Idaho from the Canadian border to Nevada! In all, some 19,000 miles of trails for the hiker, backpacker and trekker are available all around the state. Camping Whether your camping style is in a luxurious motor home or a simple, canvas tent, Idaho offers hundreds of maintained campgrounds as a base camp for outdoor activities. Most are located at or close to popular recreation areas and the state&#226;€&trade;s varied scenic highlights. These public campgrounds are operated and managed by federal and state government agencies. History Rewind Many travelers enjoy walking in the footsteps of Idaho&#226;€&trade;s early movers and shakers. The American Indian thrived for centuries in much of the state and courageous explorers and daring pioneers left their mark on the terrain. One can observe the path taken by Captains Meriwether Lewis and William Clark as they searched for a new overland route to the Pacific Ocean. Wagon wheel ruts still found in the rugged Idaho terrain tell a story of the hardships encountered by those who defied odds heading west on the California and Oregon Trails. Floating From the sheer terror of whitewater one can experience on Idaho&#226;€&trade;s famous river runs to serenely bobbing along in an inner tube on the Boise River at Boise, the state&#226;€&trade;s 3,100 miles of navigable rivers become memories for many adventurers each year. Rafting, kayaking, canoeing, tubing and jet boating are satisfying outdoor activities you are sure to enjoy. Boating Idaho boasts over 2,000 lakes and reservoirs for your boating pleasure. Some are quite large. For example, Coeur d&#226;€&trade;Alene Lake, known as the most beautiful alpine lake in the U.S., is over 25 miles long with more than 120 miles of shoreline. Great boating . About 250 miles to the south, popular Dworshak Reservoir is a 53-mile long impound of the Clearwater River. Great boating . In southeastern Idaho, near Pocatello, one can spend quality boating time at American Falls, a 56.000-acre reservoir on the Snake River. Biking Bike Idaho! There are 19,000 miles of trails. Mountain biking trails. Trails along desert back roads. Trails along rivers, and trails in most urban areas throughout the state. A big favorite with many is the Route of the Hiawatha Rail-Trail , an easy-grade, 17-mile long abandoned rail-bed, now paved for biking. This trail, near Wallace, passes through nine tunnels, around a closed tunnel, over seven high trestles, past waterfalls, with amazing vistas and interpretive signs along the way. Miscellany More specialized outdoor activities are found all over Idaho. Horseback riding is a favorite, as is landscape photography, wildlife and bird watching, golfing, swimming, water skiing, wind surfing, spelunking, rock climbing and the search for wildflowers, mushrooms and wild berries . Before emptying into Banderas Bay, this river provides several unique activities to Puerto Vallarta s visitors. One of the most overlooked sites in Puerto Vallarta is Isla Rio Cuale, a natural island in the middle of the river near the city s downtown area. Though Isla Rio Cuale is only six blocks long and one block wide, there is much to do and see any time of year. Though Isla Cuale might not receive much more than passing mentions in travel guides, the island has become an integral part of Vallartan culture. It is believed the island was created many years ago after a strong rainy season caused the river to overflow and sediment to collect in its center. As Puerto Vallarta developed in the mid-20th century, the island came to serve as the unofficial center of the city s casual pedestrian culture. Bridges were constructed off nearly every side of the island, connecting Isla Rio Cuale to several of the city s most desirable neighborhoods. Today, the island boasts numerous shops and restaurants, an archaeological museum, a popular nightclub, miles of peaceful trails, amazing scenery and one of Mexico s largest public markets - the Rio Cuale Flea Market. Besides being a distinctive tourist destination, the island and its unspoiled nature serve as an urban oasis for the city s residents. On the western side of the island, bordering the bay and Insurgentes Street, you will find the incredibly popular Rio Cuale Flea Market. With two stories of vendors selling everything from locally-made leather goods and blankets to pottery and jewelry, this market is the best place to find a bargain in Puerto Vallarta. As you browse the stalls, feel free to try out your best bargaining tactics. You might be surprised to find that most sellers are friendly and receptive. After you have finished shopping at the flea market, you can dine at one of the small cafes located nearby on the island s western shore. While the western side of the island seems to match the energy and excitement of the city, the eastern end of Isla Rio Cuale serves as a quiet sanctuary. The narrow paths that wind through the trees are perfect for bike riding and peaceful strolls. Local families are known to relax and picnic in the shade of Isla Rio Cuale s large trees. As the island also serves as a refuge for plants and animals, tourists often try to spot the families of iguanas that reside in the treetops. On the easternmost tip of the island, you will find the Centro Cultural Cuale - a popular destination for outdoor performances, film screenings and art classes. In the middle of the island s botanical garden, you will find the Museum Rio Cuale - a charming archeological museum devoted to local cultures. If possible, try to visit the museum on a Tuesday at 1 pm when the director offers her free weekly lecture in English. If you are more interested in the recent history of Puerto Vallarta, stop by the John Huston Plaza - the city s dedication to the director of Night of the Iguana. Credited for putting Puerto Vallarta on the international tourism map, Huston and his film are revered to this day, several decades after its release. With a handful of narrow suspension bridges connecting Isla Rio Cuale to the mainland, getting to the island is considered by many visitors as one of the most exciting activities. Beyond Isla Rio Cuale, you will find the Zona Romantica - a popular place for upscale dining and entertainment - and the Downtown Puerto Vallarta neighborhoods. The island also connects to El Malecon, the city s famed boardwalk along Banderas Bay. Besides being at the heart of the action in Puerto Vallarta, Isla Rio Cuale is often referred to by locals as el lugar mas bonito (the most beautiful place in Puerto Vallarta). Come experience the market and the cafes, but stay for the natural beauty and solitude. This article was written by Justin Burch. T-shirt designers say nothing&#226;€&trade;s cooler than Black Icons. Yes, they mean African American Pop Icons&#226;€&#166;visionaries, entertainers, athletes, and activists. And why are t-shirts with the likes of Muhammad Ali, Richard Pryor, George Clinton, and Martin Luther King Junior all the rage? Because these brothers are cool&#226;€&#166;.real cool. Is it the color of their skin? Is it their fame? Is it their struggle? Is it what they&#226;€&trade;ve accomplished? It&#226;€&trade;s all of that, but most of all it&#226;€&trade;s because they&#226;€&trade;re all leaders in their own right. And people, regardless of race, respect and admire people who take charge. And if you&#226;€&trade;re a brother in charge, well then more power to ya. Some fashion critics say it&#226;€&trade;s also the Hip Hop movement that&#226;€&trade;s bringing famous brothers and sisters to the fashion forefront. Recent polls show that Hip Hop gear is the most popular attire for American kids in their early teens to mid-twenties. Thanks to Hip Hop pioneers like Russell Simmons, chairman and CEO of Rush Communications, which founded Def Jam Recordings and Phat Farm Clothing and Sean &#226;€&oelig;P-Diddy&#226;€ Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Entertainment and Sean John Clothing, the Hip Hop lifestyle has gone mainstream. Kids and young adults from all over the world are embracing the music, clothing, and swaggerous way of living that is Hip Hop. So who&#226;€&trade;s wearing black icon tees? Everyone&#226;€&#166;from the girl next door to the biggest names in entertainment and sports&#226;€&#166;Rappers, Singers, Actors, Athletes, street kids, and even silver spooners are repping their favorite black icon. P. Diddy has been sporting t-shirts embellished with images of his friend and rap prodigy the late Notorious BIG, since shortly after his death. Diddy has also been known to wear other late greats such as Marvin Gaye and Jam Master Jay. Rappers The Game and Snoop Dogg have been photographed wearing their West Coast mentor and friend Tupac Shakur. Producer, songwriter Wyclef Jean has been spotted wearing Muhammad Ali, Martin Luther King Junior, and Dr. Malcolm X Shabazz. Kids all over America are wearing black icons&#226;€&#166;black inner city youth and white suburbanites alike. The fad which started in the streets probably made it to the burbs by way of television through music videos and other forms of entertainment. In a predominantly white middle school in New Jersey one student has came up with an interesting class project for black history month. He has proposed that on the first Friday in February everyone in his history class wear a t-shirt embellished with a black icon. They will get partial credit for participating in the project, but will be graded on how well they deliver a biographical speech about the icon they are wearing. Who&#226;€&trade;s popular? O.K., so now you&#226;€&trade;re wondering if it is cool to wear any old black icon on your chest. Well, the answer is yes, but in case you don&#226;€&trade;t want to chance it, here is a list of some of the more popular black icon tees. Music: Bob Marley, Ray Charles, Aaliyah, Jimi Hendrix, Rick James, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Miles Davis, Tupac. Sports: Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson, Don King, Dr. J., 1968 Olympic Protest, Jim Brown. Activists: Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, Rosa Parks. T.V. and Movie Personalities: Richard Pryor, Red Foxx as Fred Sanford, Jimmy Walker as JJ, Fred Berry as Rerun, Fat Albert. How much do the cost and where are they sold? These shirts usually cost between $12 on the very low end to $30 on the high end. But the average price for a quality tee shirt is about 20 bucks. You&#226;€&trade;ll find these shirts just about anywhere you look. I m almost positive your hand went up. If you haven t heard of the name, someone you know has for sure. You quite possibly have seen a Coach store or merchandise in various malls, shops, or boutiques. You may have even stumbled upon an outlet mall in your travels. For more than 60 years, Coach has been in existence. In 1941, the brand began from a small family run business, in a small Manhattan loft. Now, it is run in tall sky scraper buildings in the U.S. and internationally. From high quality leather and skilled hands, the first products produced by the brand name were leather handbags. Coach has since then evolved into many other areas of fashion with unsurpassed quality and customer service. Till this day they have continued to exhibit excellent workmanship. Handbags are not the only part of the collection. It also consists of various women s accessories such as wallets, leather cases, wristlets, scarves, gloves, bracelets, watches, hats and so much more. Coach even has a line for men that includes briefcases, messenger bags, watches, belts, ties, and much more. It s baby line has expanded over the years also. More and more items keep popping up year after year. Other than the ever popular handbag, you can find a complete line of women s leather shoes, which has been quite successful in the fashion world this past year. Years ago the brand struggled to keep a wide market due to their products only appealing to a specific group. Now, not only are they famous for their quality handbags, they are also on top of the market with many other leather products. Back in the early years, the solid colored handbags and shoes were not popular with the hipsters and teens. A fresh and younger look was needed to make sells. Once they started expanding their product lines, they started integrating the newest craze and trendiest styles in fashion into their designs. Once this was done, the catalogs slowly built up into the level of diversity you now see. Now, when you enter a Coach store you won t only see handbags, but women and men s shoes that range from loafers, flip flops, and boots. They also carry boots for men. They have a select clothing line and also have office furniture and eye wear. The same skilled craftsmen who hand craft the handbag also put the same craftsmanship into making their shoes. You can see the high quality in every detail of the shoe. Just take a look at the meticulous work that was put into each item made through its detailed design. The trimming and stitching is perfect in every way. Each Coach product made whether it be a handbag, wallet, travel bag, or shoe are all made with the same clarity and quality as was given over 60 years ago. Coach has stuck to consistency and tradition, but at the same time adapted to more modern times. It will be a company that is still around for many years to come. To find these amazing products, you must first go to the place that offers the best of everything, the internet. The internet offers all Coach products at reduced prices. With theme parks on what seems like every corner, a variety of sights to see and some of the best food in the state of Florida, the city of Orlando has everything it takes to be a major worldwide tourist destination. But, when something out of the ordinary is desired, Orlando really shows its true colors. Those who want to get a different perspective on it all, go on helicopter tours of the general area and even some nearby portions of the state. Orlando is ideal for getting a good picture of Florida s diverse terrain. The sights a vacationer can see hovering above Orlando and its general environs are amazing and include some of Florida s most wild terrain and its most developed Metro areas. With its central location, Orlando is ideal for seeing some of the state s best offerings. Those on an Orlando vacation can expect to find these things on the ground: * Disney, MGM, Sea World and other theme parks. When it comes to major parks and attractions, Orlando might just be the biggest in the world. With offerings designed for every age and almost every interest, the parks here are most certainly the area s biggest draws. * Historical sites. Orlando is a neat, old Florida city. Its historic side is often overlooked by those interested in fast-paced roller coaster rides, but there s more to this city than amusement parks. The Orlando downtown historic area includes such sites as Church Street Station and more. * Dinner theater. Dinner and a show has never been so exciting. The general area includes pirate themed dinners, medieval themes and more. It s a different way to get dinner and take in a show and one that s appropriate for the entire family. Plus, the city is home to just about every kind of eatery imaginable from upscale, 5-star dining to hamburger joints, the hungry can find it all here. * Game rooms, outdoor sports and more. The Orlando area is home to a number of other attractions, including lakeside activities, world-class game rooms and more. Plus, there are even some great shopping and museum trips worth taking. * Beaches, Everglades and more. The area is close to the beaches of Daytona and within a reasonably short drive to the Kennedy Space Center and even the world famous Everglades. When Orlando is the home base for a vacation, the possibilities are almost endless. For those who want to get a bird s eye view of the action, Orlando is a great place to take off for a helicopter tour. The terrain a rider might see ranges from metropolitan to absolutely wild. Depending on the tour chosen, a passenger might be able to see such things as the parks and the hustle and bustle and then leave it all behind to see what the wild side is really like - the wild side of the glades and the area s many other swamp land areas, that is. Florida is a truly amazing state with a wide variety of natural attractions coupling with manmade destinations to make the experience one-of-a-kind. When it comes to seeing it all, those who want to do just that don t forget the view from above. The beaches, wetlands and even the city of Orlando itself are spectacular to behold from the sky. Also intriguing is Marsabit National Park, whose rich forest and shy Big Five population rest on the cool slopes of a massive volcano rising gently out of the baking northern plains. Dramatic volcano-landscapes of an entirely different manifestation burst bleakly from Lake Turkana&#226;€&trade;s waters and form South Island and Central Island National Parks, which, together with Sibiloi comprise a Unesco World Heritage Site. Getting there Daily Air Kenya and safari link services link Samburu National Reserve and Lewa Wildlife conservancy with Nanyuki, Meru and Nairobi (Wilson Airport) Bus and Matatu Countless bus and matatu services enter northern Kenya from the central and west highlands. Getting Around 4WD Having your own 4WD gives you flexibility, but comes with its own challenges thanks to wide-ranging road conditions. For starters you&#226;€&trade;ll need a large 4X4 (a Toyota RAV4 or Suzuki won&#226;€&trade;t do) with high ground clearance and a skid plate to protect the undercarriage. You should have a high-rise jack, sand ladders, a shovel, a long, strong rope or chain (to hitch up to camels or other vehicles) plus enough fuel, water and spare tires (one is rarely enough). A compass and good map are also invaluable. Bus and Matatu There&#226;€&trade;s now regular public transport as far north as Kalokol and Lokichoggio on Turkana&#226;€&trade;s west side, but it&#226;€&trade;s more limited up the lake&#226;€&trade;s east side, only reaching Mararal Via Nyahururu or Isiolo. With improved security, buses now run from Isiolo to Moyale on the Ethiopian border via Marsabit. Hitching Hopping onto the top of a dusty transport truck with locals has long been as uncomfortable, dirty and somehow mildly enchanting way to travel around northern Kenya. However, improved bus services mean that Loyangalani is the only major destination that still requires hitching. To enjoy the experience you must throw out your schedule and accept that you&#226;€&trade;ll spend days waiting for rides. Its no free ride either, with most drivers charging between Kshs 2 and Kshs 5 per kilometer. Security is another issue, as bandits are more interested in cattle trucks than buses, and for this reason hitching can&#226;€&trade;t be recommended unreservedly. Northern Kenya overland Safaris and organised trips A few kenya organised safaris and kenya overland trucks now go to lake Turkana&#226;€&trade;s west, but most still stick to the lakes east side. Average Kenya overland trips are seven-to-10-days long and they typically follow the same route. Other options include camel safaris, although treks down into the Suguta valley should be approached with caution for security reasons. Generally, if doing a self drive northern Kenya safari, you may need to make stops in towns between long and lonely stretches to enquire about the road and security conditions. Where possible, wait for the next departing convoy as these are given armed escort, since the police won&#226;€&trade;t have enough personnel to offer you individual escort. A rule of the thumb here is to always consider any information gathered before hand (no matter how extensive) as outdated until updated by locals at these pit stops. You will be surprised at how friendly and helpful these local souls can be to travelers in the region. Robert is a travel expert in Kenya east Africa and tour consultant with Landmark Safaris. Located on the southernmost tip of the Indian peninsula, Kerala has a lot going for it in terms of its potential as a holiday destination&#226;€&#166; not the least its bounteous natural wealth. Its name meaning &#226;€&oelig;land of coconuts&#226;€, Kerala&#226;€&trade;s luxuriant fronds provide the state with welcome shade from the tropical sun. And blessed with ample rainfall, Kerala&#226;€&trade;s equable climate and fertile soil have clothed this state in the finest of iridescent greens &#226;€&quot; all ingredients for a perfect tropical holiday. Kerala&#226;€&trade;s lush plantations have remained an irresistible temptation for visitors from foreign lands since times immemorial. For earlier it was traders rather than holidaymakers who flocked to Kerala, lured by her spices. Today, visits to plantations growing cardamom, pepper and other exotic spices are on the holiday itineraries of most packages to Kerala. Which brings us to Kerala&#226;€&trade;s culinary enticements. Kerala has its own unique delectable cooking, quite distinct even amongst South Indian cuisine. Drawing largely on the local produce: rice, coconuts, bananas, fish and a range of spices, the culinary achievement of Kerala lies in the variations that attend the packaging of these staple ingredients to create an endless range of dishes for the gastronomically adventurous tourist: pulaos and biryanis, appams, pootu - rice dough and grated coconut steamed in hollow bamboo, thoran - chopped vegetables, avial &#226;€&quot; stew topped with payasam &#226;€&quot; the delicious sweet milk desert. Kerala&#226;€&trade;s extensive 900 km long coastline also means that it has some of the best beaches in India. Known for their gentle surf and clear blue waters, Kerala&#226;€&trade;s tranquil beaches are eagerly sought out by holiday tourists, Indian and foreign. Kovalam, Varkala, Shankhumugam, Vizhinjam, Kappad and Bekal are some of the famous beaches of Kerala. However, the cream of a Kerala holiday package, for most tourists, would undoubtedly be the backwaters. Tranquil and laid-back, these backwaters are a relic of Kerala&#226;€&trade;s ancient network of floating highways. Indispensable in the past for trade and commerce, Kerala&#226;€&trade;s backwaters continue to rake in revenue from the leisure holiday industry in return for the inimitable experience of a lazy boat cruise, as Kerala unplugged floats languidly by. Kuttanad, Alappuzha, Kottavam and Kochi are the most interesting for the perfect Kerala backwaters holidays. And then there are the hills. The Western Ghats, extending from Maharashtra southwards, terminate in Kerala with the gently rolling hills and valleys that are home to the unique shola forests and tea, coffee and spice plantations - yet another holiday attraction in Kerala. Distinct in appeal from either the beaches or the backwaters, Kerala&#226;€&trade;s hill stations with their mist filled valleys and cloud covered mountains offer perfect holiday bliss in the form of the invigorating mountain air, laden with the aroma of freshly picked spices. Nelliyampathy, Munnar, Devikulam, Peermade, and Malampuzha are some of the hill stations on the Kerala holiday circuit. Kerala&#226;€&trade;s hilly regions are also home to lush forests and streams, making them home to some of the most spectacular wildlife reserves in India. Besides the elephant, gaur, deer, leopard and tiger, Kerala is home to rare wildlife including Nilgiri tahr and lion tailed macaque, and most holiday packages to Kerala offer a date with this raw, untamed face of Kerala. Eranakulam, Silent Valley, Parambikulam, Peppara, Nagarhole and Periyar are especially famous for wildlife holidays in Kerala. Besides, Kerala literally brims over with history and culture, amply visible all over during a holiday here, whether in its fantastic ancient temples, its unique art forms including Kathakali and Kalaripattu and festivals such as Pooram and Onam. Blessed with a wealth of beauty and natural resources, it is not surprising that Kerala is home to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian Science of Health. Supported by a salubrious climate, Kerala is home to a number of health spas and Wellness centres where tourists experience a rejuvenating holiday in God&#226;€&trade;s own country. Kerala truly is a holiday paradise in India Roozbegh Gazdar Content Writer traveljini.com seo@traveljini.com<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/577199853560057206-8489760928131048341?l=thefamousfootwear.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Visiting Lake Chelan, Washington

If you&#226;€&trade;re looking for a great destination to travel to, don&#226;€&trade;t overlook beautiful Lake Chelan in North Central Washington State. Lake Chelan is a gorgeous 55-mile long lake that cuts into the beautiful North Cascade Mountains. Fishing, boating, and water sports of all sorts are plentiful on Lake Chelan as is sunbathing on the shores during the hotter summer months. If outdoor recreation is an interest of yours then Lake Chelan a great place to go. At the lower end sit the towns of Chelan and Manson; these communities combine the aspects of a resort town with the charm of a simple small village. You&#226;€&trade;ll find few chain restaurants and motels in Chelan, meaning you&#226;€&trade;ll have to &#226;€&oelig;settle&#226;€ for superior cooked meals from locally owned establishments. Many condos and motels overlook the famous lake, but summer reservations better be made early. A popular tourist site for young and old alike, Chelan is surrounded by apple orchards like much of the North Central Washington region. During the harvest months fresh fruit is both plentiful and delicious thanks to roadside fruit stands that seem to appear out of nowhere. For the youngsters, there is miniature golf, bowling, a petting zoo, and a waterslide park. There is also the option of casino-like entertainment from the Casino in Manson. The lake is divided into the upper and lower basin. The lower basin is home to most of the recreational boaters and jet skiing enthusiasts and the upper lake is mainly used as a waterway to get to some of the numerous boat-in-only or hike-in-only campgrounds that dot the shoreline. Imagine your peaceful camping trip taking place at a campground that only boaters and accomplished hikers could get to. At the upper end of Lake Chelan sits the remote village of Stehekin. The Stehekin area itself has about 20-30 miles of roadway but none of them connect to the outside world. That&#226;€&trade;s right; the only way to make a much needed visit to Stehekin is by boat, floatplane, or hiking in on forest trails. Stehekin has one calling card operated phone and not much else for modern luxuries. There are approximately 75 year-round residents made up of retirees, forest service workers, teachers in the one-room schoolhouse, and small business owners. The most convenient way to get to Stehekin is by boat. Daily boat trips are run from Chelan, 55 miles down lake, to Stehekin and passage can be booked there at the boat company (this is also how the Stehekin residents get their groceries and other living necessities). This boat service also stops at other points on the lake like the small community of Holden Village and the occasional trailhead. Once in Stehekin you can choose to spend the night in the rustic inn or camp in any of the local camp sites. Within a short drive/hike is Rainbow falls that, though an awesome sight at any time of year, is truly majestic in the spring and early summer. There is far more to explore in this rustic little hamlet cut off from the world, enough for the outdoor enthusiast and the history lover alike. Hiking trails head off in many many directions from the shores of Lake Chelan allowing thorough exploration of the beautiful North Central Washington area. Chelan itself boasts a number of golf courses and wineries so there is enough to keep the adults occupied as well. When the winter hits, the recreation doesn&#226;€&trade;t stop as the skiers, snowboarding, and snowmobiling take over. Beautiful Lake Chelan in North Central Washington has no problem year in and year out entertaining many wonderful visitors. There is so many events and activities offered by, not only this town, but the entire North Central Washingon.area that it would be a shame for the entire family to miss out on such great memories.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/577199853560057206-3920024380621078375?l=thefamousfootwear.blogspot.com' alt='' /></div>

Camp Kenya Top Five (5) Star Camp- Best Tented Camp Kenya

Camp Kenya Top Five (5) Star Camp- Best Tented Camp Kenya Galdessa Safari Camp-Kenya Galdessa camp is built on a curve in the Galana River and shaded by tall doum palms. Tiata Hills Wildlife sanctuary Hilton in the Kenya Wild The privately owned Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is 17,000 hectares of rolling savannah accented by dramatic rocky outcroppings and small plateaus. Because there is plenty of water, many animals shelter there, and large herds of elephants and other plains game migrate to the sanctuary from Tsavo each year. Hilton international holds a long lease on the land and has built a trio of safari lodges to harmonize with this beautiful setting. These include the Taita Hills lodge, the salt lick lodge for overnight game viewing and the tents, a tented camp hidden in the forest along the banks of the Bura River. All are run according to high Hilton standards of luxury and service. Visitors are an international mixture of tour groups, business men and small private safaris arriving every day by road and by air. Hilton is also responsible for managing the sanctuary and ensuring the safety of the animals. For this reason, there are 18 game wardens on Hilton&#226;€&trade;s Taita Hills Lodge staff. Because the sanctuary is privately managed, there are very few vehicles on game drives. The wardens keep track of the animals to guard them from mishap and poaching. The wardens also pass the word to drivers, which can make game drives very exciting and satisfying. Robert is an expert tour operator with landmark safaris ltd. Rome may not offer you the craziest twilight funs, yet the city has enough to entertain you after dark. Rome certainly has bars, pubs, and clubs, but they come into action late night. The best and traditional twilight recreations are evening strolls or sightseeing jaunts. Rome is awesome, and its beauty is tempting during dusky hours. The sites, just to name a few, such as Colosseum (Colosseo), Roman Forum (Foro Romano), Trevi Fountain (Fontana di Trevi), Castel Sant Angelo, and the Vittorio Emanuel II Monument in Piazza Venezia are awe-inspiring and worth seeing in the city lights. However, if you are looking to explore something new other than the prime attractions of Rome after dark, you may find lots of unexplored treasures. The city&#226;€&trade;s piazzas become extremely lively in the twilights. You may start your twilight treasure hunt with a visit to Piazza Campo Dei Fiori, a rectangular piazza (square) near Piazza Navona; across the street from Piazza Navona, actually between Piazza Navona and Piazza Farnese. The Piazza Campo Dei Fiori, surrounded by great bars, restaurants, eateries, ice cream stands, boutiques and shops, is a popular destination at night for locals and foreigners, and gets overfilled during evenings. The piazza is a good place to watch new people, Romans, Roman culture, and to have a glass of wine, if you are lucky enough to get a seat in any of bars, or else do as Romans do; get your drink and enjoy it outside. Piazza Navona, a city square in Rome becomes a magical place after dark. It&#226;€&trade;s really a nice place to hang out in the evenings. The piazza is pride of Rome with the sculptural and architectural master creations, such as Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers in the center of the piazza by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, and the church of Sant Agnese in Agone by Francesco Borromini and Girolamo Rainaldi. Additionally, the fountains &#226;€&quot; the Fontana di Nettuno, located at the northern area of the Piazza, and the Fontana del Moro, located at the southern end of the piazza. The Piazza Navona is a wonderful place to spend an evening out. The bars and caf&#195;&#169;s between Campo de&#226;€&trade; Fiori and Piazza Navona are the worth visiting points during nights. Piazza Venezia is another worth visiting lovely piazza in central the Rome. Taking its name from the adjacent Palazzo Venezia, the large is by the imposing Victor Emmanuel II monument. It&#226;€&trade;s really awful awing! Next, you can visit Piazza Barberini featuring Gian Lorenzo Bernini s Triton Fountain. Of course, not to be missed Piazza San Pietro or Saint Peter s Square that is located directly in front of St. Peter s Basilica, in the Vatican City. Testaccio is little far-out tourist point, but developing popular with young &#226;€&oelig;evening outers&#226;€. The 20th rione of Rome, Testaccio is has been a center of activity for butchers and has many nightclubs. The rione is fast growing popular because of the area in and around Monte Testaccio with a great variety of night clubs and discos. Trastevere, the 13th rione of Rome, is another great place for evening hour fun. Famous for its pubs and restaurant, the region is extremely popular with both Italians and foreigners. The Spanish Steps are the nice to end up your after dark jaunt. Climbing between the Piazza di Spagna at the base and Piazza Trinit&#195; dei Monti, the Spanish Steps serve as rendezvous point for late-nighters, particularly romanticists and lovers. You can often find the steps full of activity; people sitting, eating gelatos, drinking, chattering, and laughing, and passionate lovers snuggling. Whether the wedding is on the beach or in the small garden of your house, you definitely do not want it raining down on your dream set up and this can be well avoided, by simply adding a wedding tent to the picture. It is important to remember that wedding tents are a good option only for light to moderate rains and may not hold out during heavy rainstorms. It is also an important consideration, while buying a wedding tent, that it be sturdy, so it doesn t give away. Usually tents are provided with thick weighted sides for the purpose. High quality wedding tents use tension ratchets to hold down the fabric of the tent. In most cases, a vinyl film with polyester on the inside forms the body of the tent. As for the structure, most common are pole-supported tents, although frame tents are often used for small scale gatherings and events. In fact, frame tents prove to be cheaper than pole tents and may cost you around $800 for a 40 ft by 60 ft to about $5000 for a 60 ft by 280 ft. Size options available to you range from 9x10 to even 120x400 for very large gatherings. Wedding tents can easily accommodate 1000 to 1500 persons or more. The wedding tent industry is quite a large one now, providing the buyer with a varied line of options in colors, designs, patters and sizes. One is sure to find a tent befitting his tastes and requirements. Most tents are water resistant, dust resistant and come with removable walls or extendable frames and with other fringe frills. Although buying a tent can be a useful investment as these are durable and economical for long-term usage but many opt for the rental route. While renting a tent, always keep in mind your needs and the area available. Also be sure to check with the renting firm as to how the tent will be delivered and set up. Often the rental firms are willing to offer professional help for setting it up, although they may charge a little extra for that. Part of the attraction of these labels for the avergage Joe in the street is not just the hardwearing, resistant build of the clothing but that they have a reputation among the industrial and manual labour industries. While most would baulk at the thought of actually working on a building site, factory or in the role of a security guard or caretaker, the overt masculinity of these roles makes many people want to emulate the look in some way and appear more hardened than they actually are to passers by. Dickies, Timberland and Caterpiller have all made safety footwear , especially the safety boots for which they are famous, for many years now. It must have come as a surprise to them then, that the a large percentage of their customers would be purchasing their boots but never have any intention to do anything more strenuous than carry their shopping home from a supermarket. Obviously, mockery aside, there are quite a few advantages to wearing safety boots in a non-work enviroment. For one, your toes would be well-protected should you drop anything heavy on your feet and the waterproof, hard-wearing construction of a pair of safety boots would fair you well in all weathers (well, maybe not the heat of the Summer months). In recent years, all three manufacturers have seen that there is room to introduce boots that other a compromise between the sometimes too rugged build of their boots and the fashionable appeal of their products. Lite versions of their safety boots have been introduced which don t include the steel toe-cap or some of the safety features that might not be necessary to the man on the street (not everyone has to worry about errant nails going through the bottom of their boot everyday). Similarly, the work versions of their boots have been given makeovers due to the presence of fashion designers within these companies that until now gave little thought to the aesthetics of their products. With Dickies, Timberland and Caterpillar all now make safety boots intended to be worn on and off the work place, now everyone can achieve that gruff look without feeling like they are wearing deep sea diving boots. California is called the golden state because of its famous gold rush in 1849. But in actuality, it&#226;€&trade;s the golden state because of its beautiful weather. This beach side state is known for its laid back attitude towards life, making it a popular travel destination. Besides the beautiful Southern California weather, this state offers visitors a huge array of attractions and activities that create a magnificent vacation for people of all ages. Orange County Southern California is so large and diverse, that American Express Travel has effectively broken up into three areas of interest. The first is Orange County. Made popular by the recent television show, the OC, Orange County contains some of the most popular beaches in the continental United States. These beaches offer surfers some of the best terrain to employ their sport. On the edge of Orange County is one of the most famous childhood institutions ever mad: Disneyland! This resort has grown quite a lot in the last ten years, and now hosts three Disney owned hotels, the original Disneyland theme park and a new park called California Adventure. The area is full of many other hotels that cater to family travelers. And literally down the road from Disneyland is Angels stadium, home to the 2002 World Champion baseball team the Angles. Los Angeles The next important section of California is the Los Angles area. Home to big business, this booming metropolitan area is home to some pretty famous landmarks. Stop by Alvera Street to experience the cities Latin influences and to see Union Station. Visit downtown s garment district for some great discount shopping. Don&#226;€&trade;t miss the La Brea Tar Pits and the Page museum, which can be found on Museum Rom near the LA County Art Museum and the Modern Art Museum. See the new Los Angeles Cathedral while checking out the Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler, and the Ahmenson Theater. With so much to do, you&#226;€&trade;ll never be board. Hollywood About forty minutes from downtown, experience the magic of Hollywood. Your first stop should be Grauman&#226;€&trade;s Chinese Theater. You can get a tour of the original theater in all its glory, or actually see a movie in one of the theaters refurbished sections. Then step outside to see the hand and footprints of some of the biggest stars to ever live. Maybe your hands fit into the prints of Clark Gable or Harrison Ford. Stand where Shirley Temple once danced and Judy Garland sang. See the star walk of fame that lines the streets outside the theater. Just next-door is the Kodak Theater, where every year the Academy Awards are held. The Kodak shopping center is also a treat, offering luxury boutiques, fun dining experiences and even the popular Build-a-Bear workshop. Across the street from the Chinese Theater is the El Capitan, an old style movie theater with special pre movie shows and a classic pipe organ that is still played for the moviegoers. Next to the El Capitan, you can attend the filming of the Jimmy Kimmel Show. All the while, you can gaze at the Hollywood sign, day or night! The best way to see all these great Southern California sights is through American Express Travel Deals , which will combine air, hotel and car rental into a great package. This way, travelers can see the amazing wonders of Southern California on their own time. It&#226;€&trade;s not impossible to see it all! The side streets are bustling with merchants of all kinds offering textile, fish and even gold. At 14 kilometers long the creek is restricted to wooden ships so that its traditional nature is maintained. It splits Dubai into two parts: Deira Dubai and Bur Dubai, and is a natural inlet that cuts into the center of Dubai. It is, in fact, the reason for the existence of Dubai. Without the creek there would be no Dubai. It was traditionally used as a trading port by small to medium sized boats from countries all over the Middle east, and in particular other Gulf countries and states. India, too, was a rich source of trade, and the creek was an ideal natural and safe harbor round which the city was built. At one time Dubai was the center of the pearl trade. It had been so for a long time, and was even visited and written about by Marco Polo in the thirteenth century. It has long been superseded by the cheaper Japanese pearl fishing industry, but laid the foundations of what Dubai is today. A great way to see the creek, and all the landmarks that is visible from it, is to take a tour on a traditional dhow. You can relax and see the sights, and there is food and drink on board. You can also take a water taxi, or abras, to cross from one side to the other. This is a pleasant ten minute journey and well worth the small fee. The creek itself is a great way to see the real Dubai and get the real flavor of Arabian daily life. Stop off at the wharfs on the Deira side and have a look at the wooden dhows loading and unloading, or check out the Creekside Park with its Children&#226;€&trade;s City and huge amphitheatre. There are boat rides, a train through the park and a cable car that gives you a great view of the Deira area. Stop off for a picnic or bring some food for barbecue. There are special barbecue areas in the park. The original settlement of Dubai was in Shindagah in Bur Dubai. Here you will find museums and the Dubai Heritage Village. You can get the abra over from Deira after checking out the wharfages for the equivalent of only 30 cents, and the trip is fabulous in the evening. The dhows are all lit up with lanterns and the old ruler&#226;€&trade;s court is impossible to miss when to approach the Bur Dubai side. It really is a unique and wonderful experience, far removed from the modernity of the city center and the modern hotels. No visit to Dubai is complete without a sail on a dhow and a trip across the water on an abra. Of course Dubai Creek is more than just the dhows and the souks. Opposite the Creekside Park is the Dubai Creek Gold and Yacht Club. This has a championship standard challenging par 71 course, and visiting non-members are welcome to try to conquer it. The clubhouse is designed to look like the wind-filled sails of an Arab dhow, and is one the favorite places for businessmen in the region. It is also a local landmark. Further downstream towards the Gulf, you will see the Grand Mosque on the Bur Dubai side, across the creek from the Dubai bus station. This boasts traditional Persian features such as a beautiful blue mosaic, stained glass and domes. It also has the highest minaret in Dubai from which the Muezzin calls the faithful to prayer. The mosque is open to Muslims only. The creek area is also home to many of the luxury hotels that Dubai is famous for. The Dubai Hilton and Sheraton are here, and if you are looking for a mix of the old and the modern Dubai, the rough and the smooth, then book into one of these hotels. You can look over the creek area from your room if you have it facing the right way. Organize that when you book. Nobody who visits Dubai should miss the creek area. The main drag is very modernized and expanding rapidly, but the creek area is where you see the old Dubai at work. The souks, the traders and merchants selling their gold, their fish but no longer, unfortunately, their pearls. It&#226;€&trade;s a great place to visit and make sure you get on one of these wooden dhows and take a look at Dubai from the creek. It&#226;€&trade;s a fabulous sight to see the Dubai skyline from the creek and something you will never forget. You can walk to the Historic Cable Car, Symphony Hall, and other popular locations, or take the city tour bus and explore the beautiful cityscapes including Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, The Victorians, (Pink Ladies four brightly painted Queen Anne Victorians) and Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Wharf. The tour bus will send a shuttle to some hotels, and take you to the Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Wharf where the double-decker buses depart. Visit Chinatown for a full day of sightseeing. Chinatown seems to go clear to China with its many shops and restaurants. You can purchase everything from fine jewelry to your favorite San Francisco sports team cap or jersey at reasonable prices. During our visit we found a very nice silk scarf for my mother. The shop keeper called it his Mother&#226;€&trade;s Day Special. I&#226;€&trade;m sure we paid his regular price, but it was nice and he was very attentive to our requests. Catch the Powell-Hyde cable car line to the Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Wharf. They are still reliable and a scenic way to see the city. Dine at No. 9 Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Grotto. Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Wharf&#226;€&trade;s first Seafood Restaurant for a nice cozy dinner, and order the Dungeness crab pasta dish. Tasty! The Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Wharf is a tourist attraction located on the waterfront where you can shop for souvenirs, see live entertainment, experience the bay breeze, and the many different aromas from the restaurants along the Wharf. If you&#226;€&trade;re the adventurous type, you can bike 2 miles across the Golden Gate Bridge erected with its orange towers, and return by ferry. This is great family fun. Guided Tours available daily from five locations, 465 Jefferson St. at the Argonaut Hotel, 1095 Columbus Ave. near last cable car stop, Pier 41 at Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s wharf, Pier 43 &#194;&#189; at Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s wharf, and 2715 Hyde St. near last cable car stop. For a little more adventure, take a ferry ride to Alcatraz Island a.k.a. &#226;€&oelig;THE ROCK&#226;€ known to be an inescapable experience. They even have tours of the actual facility, but you must book in advance since it&#226;€&trade;s one of the cities more popular attractions. We didn&#226;€&trade;t visit Alcatraz, but we did get some fantastic photos and video as we ferried our way to Sausalito. Upon our arrival to Sausalito, we noticed what may have been a Cinco de Mayo festival already in progress. This included many vendors selling their artwork and various crafts. We also enjoyed the sounds of a Cajun flavored blues band straight out of New Orleans that really set the atmosphere. Finally, when you return to the Fisherman&#226;€&trade;s Wharf, beware of the local comedian/prankster a.k.a. &#226;€&oelig;THE BUSHMAN&#226;€. He looms on the sidewalk camouflaged with a few hand held bushes, and if you&#226;€&trade;re strolling along, talking to your honey, or chatting on your cell phone, he&#226;€&trade;ll shake his bushes and give you a little scare if you&#226;€&trade;re not paying attention, but it&#226;€&trade;s all in fun. Be sure to leave a tip in his coffee can. He was a hilarious part of our San Francisco experience. San Francisco&#226;€&trade;s famous fog occurs mostly in summer, and can make things quite chilly, so keep a sweater or jacket close by.
